(FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) Burlington Band GUAGUA Releases 2nd CD
Following up their critically-acclaimed debut CD, “pan frito,” Burlington based psychotropical jazz band Guagua has just released another batch of 12 original tunes. The new CD, entitled “Psychotropical,” was recorded last winter in Burlington. On Friday, February 1st, at Parima Thai Restaurant in Burlington, Guagua will be celebrating the arrival of the new CD at their Psychotropical CD Release Party.
Guagua's original "psychotropical jazz" style blends guitar, piano & horn melodies with tropical Caribbean & Brazilian polyrhythms for a uniquely exuberant and danceable sound.
Guagua was born two years ago at the end of a Sambatucada rehearsal (the famous brazillian-style percussion ensemple that a Burlingtoner can find at almost every parade or peace march). Geoff Kim walks in there, says, "Who wants to join my son-samba band" so they all go over to Radio Bean and have their first concert. Geoff and Raph (the guitar player that helped start the band but has moved away since then) got busy writing and writing- but not actually writing DOWN, because Guagua relies almost exclusively on the oral tradition to learn new songs. So the Radio Bean gig becomes a regular thing- still to this day Geoff and his babies sit down and open the set with learning a new song every Tuesday evening at around 6:30. It's two hours of tropical bliss year-round in the cultural hub of this great state of Vermont.
