| About GUAKA |
Le groupe Guaka, né en 2003 suite à la rencontre de quatre musiciens issus d'horizons culturels distincts ; Chili, Colombie, Mexique et France. La musique véhiculée par Guaka s'appuie sur un large éventail de sonorités et de rythmes, reflétant les diverses appartenances culturelles et loin des cloisonnements habituels suscités par les styles musicaux. Les rythmes traditionnels des chansons latines, sont croisés avec les musiques amplifiées comme la cumbia, le rock-punk, la funk, le ska et en particulier le rock. Les textes, pour la plupart engagés, évoquent les problèmes relatifs à l'Amérique Latine et au reste du monde, mais célèbrent aussi des personnages fictifs évoluant dans l'imaginaire du groupe. En 2008 le groupe donne naissance à son premier album appelé comme le groupe GUAKA, autoproduit et indépendant. Ils confirment ainsi leurs aspirations donnant à écouter une multitude sonorités porteuses d’une constante exploration. Le disque est ainsi écouté dans une vingtaine de radios (toute catégorie confondue), à travers la France, l’Espagne et l’Amérique latine. Ils s’apprêtent déjà à sortir un deuxième album pour Mars 2009.

El grupo Guaka nace en el año 2003 en Burdeos, Francia del encuentro de cuatro musicos venidos de horizontes culturales distintos - Colombia, Chile, Francia y mas tarde México -, se caracterisa en principio por una musica dinamica y calurosa de naturaleza principalmente acustica. Guiados por una voz incomparable, dos guitarras acusticas y una pequeña seccion de percusiones latinas desde esos momentos se dejaron llevar por un vector de mestizajes musicales teniendo por objetivo un intercambio cultural y por ende el mutuo enriquecimiento de dichas culturas. La musica de Guaka se apoya sobre una gran variedad de sonidos y ritmos que reflejan obviamente los diferentes origenes culturales de sus integrantes, lejos del habitual encierro para con un estilo musical determinado.
Desde el año 2005, Guaka crece con la llegada de nuevos musicos siendo desde entonces 6 ; con el fin de empezar un nuevo giro musical deciden definirse como un grupo de fusion rock-latino, entre tradicion y contemporaneidad. En esta nueva agrupacion, a parte de los musicos fundadores, llegan un bajista, un baterista, otro percusionuista y un tecladista dandole al grupo una orientacion mucho mas rock.
Los ritmos tradicionales de las nuevas canciones latinas, se cruzan con la musica amplificada como la salsa, el funk, el punk, el ska, el reggae y en particular el rock. Las letras, la mayoria comprometidas con una realidad social, hablan en general de los problemas relativos a América latina y el resto del mundo, pero también se habla de personajes ficticeos salidos de la imaginacion del grupo.
IN ENGLISH: Guaka was born in 2003 in Bordeaux, France, from the meeting of four musicians coming from different cultural backgrounds -Chile, Colombia, France and later on Mexico- In the beginning their music was characterized for being warm and dynamic, most of it acoustic. Guided by a unique voice, two acoustic guitars and a small percussion set, they let themselves go through a path of mixed cultures; their goal being the mutual interchange of these cultures and therefore the mutual enrichment of these. Guaka's music is based on a great variety of sounds and rhythms an obvious mirror from the different cultural origins of each member. Far from any confinement of a defined musical style.
Starting 2005 Guaka grew with the arrival of new musicians, being six from now on, they decided to make a twist by defining their music as Fusion Rock-Latino a mixture between traditional and contemporary music. In this new line up, we'll find a bass player, another percussionist, a drumer and (sometimes) a pianist and another guitarrist. The traditional rhythms are mixed with amplified music such ska, reggae, funk, punk, salsa and particularly rock music. Their lyrics are engaged with the political reality of South America and elsewhere but they talk as well about imaginary characters created in the band's mind.
