I grew up basically in a music-driven family. I could still remember when i was still little, my dad used to play Cliff Richard (or was it Sinatra's?) (well.. now i know it was Jeff Lynne records) numbers while he's at home and smoke cigs with a book in his hands facing the front door... oh yeah and my mum could do Saloma's.. lol
My eldest sister was in a band since 17 (if i'm not mistaken)..She sings.. So as my eldest brother. Well, they did share the same band members lol..As if there're no other skilled band-geek out there in the small town (are there?).. but yeah it was cool to see them do these stuff! Eventually, my eldest sister came up with a compilation which they recorded in KK (that was when i still very little.. 8 or 9 maybe?). The dumbest thing is I only get to listen to it when i'm 16 or 17.. well, maybe i've listened to it before that but no, totally no memories of it though lol.. I couldn't find the cassette's (yeah they still use this antiques back then!) cover so i didn't know which one was her song.
Dreadfully it was, i had to go through one by one songs until I finally heard her name announced (well, they sort of introduce themselves before or in between songs cause it's a Kaamatan (is that how it's spelled?) Compilation and to those of you who's from elsewhere but Malaysia, Kaamatan is an ethnic celebration that has something to do with something about being glorious over harvest season! (at least i got that one right..pretty sure of it!-_-)
.. Anyway, listening to her was like a complete awe!.. i mean the tone was like hell and the pitch was unlimited.. (trust me! i dont do this everyday. bragging about my sis that is) but yeah.. to be honest, it captured me to this music stuff right on! until now..
So.. my elder brother taught me to play the guitar when i was like 13 or 14 (yeah was a bit old to start with).. he and a cousin formed a band.. well, not seriously though. but they have this kinda routine where they'd go jamming at a place on weekends.. where you pay for like RM25-RM30 an hour rite? and they asked me to learn to play drums cause the cousin was on the guitar and my bro on bass.. and it sounds cool, so i jumped right in! eventhough i do not possesed neither drumming skills nor knowledge.. or whatever.. so i totally learned to play the drums all by the ear and it went on for like 2 years and i picked up a lot i think (cause i eventually could play new songs by just listening to the song once or twice.. or was it more than that?.. no idea) and i could play different styles or beats or whatever the hell it is that you call it.
At 18, I started buying cassettes/cds like mad!.. i mean really mad.. like 4 pieces a day? yeah totally.. so by picking up this really unhealthy habit (as my mum used to call it) i started listening to more than just Nirvana or Pearl Jam stuff.. cause those were the kind of music that we used to play all the time.. oh yeah and our local band Butterfingers (its rude to not to mentioned them :P).. yup! and with this habit too i get to listen to so many different music genres.. and those cassettes and cds to me was like an accessories.. just like when you buy a ring (or whatever it is that you bought) and you just put it on (or use) and never actually asked why or what was the reason that you bought 'em.. yeah its like that to me :) well yeah with this habit too i picked up different styles on playing 'em songs on guitars..
so, being in Sarawak for 2 years and visited the remote areas and try to comprehend what their music life was about has indulged me with the right composure and it does catalyzes my creativity to its full extent!.. lol pretty big word for a blunt!.. no idea.. but yeah! those people had taught me one important seed of truly understanding this making music stuff. ORIGINALITY.
oh yeah moving on.. so im in my 20s.. and my eldest brother has taken a bachelor in music education.. and we used to have like many musical instruments at home (guitars, keyboards etc).. and looking down at the keyboard sitting on the floor for quite some time had infected me with an itch which increases everyday (although the amount wasn't all that generous) until eventually i sat down and went on it. i turned on the power button and hit play.. it plays songs varies to what type of sound code that you wished to hear.. and its "Grand Piano" that i tried.. i kept hitting the next button until i could find one (or more) that i liked.. and when i did find the one that i like, i played it over and over again.. slowed the tempo and try to figure out which key to which sound.. it went on for hours.. until i could actually play the song (so very slowly).. and increases the tempo in every attempts.. but yeah it worked! lol.. i did that to many other songs before (yeah, here it comes) actually trying to make one of my own.. well of course they sound stupid at first but once i get the hang of it.. they actually sounds cool! lol
i started writing songs since end of last year (2008). got a tune by mistake.. but it sounded really weird and stuff, you know.. worked on the words.. and walla! well its on my playlist.. "Life" is totally is my 1st song ever!! (that is if you count being serious in writing songs) lol.. cause yeah nevermind.. lol i'd prolonged this "About Me".. but yeah
that is it i think.. rite? ..
