About me:

Home to one of the world’s finest collections of modern and contemporary art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is itself a masterpiece. Designed by visionary American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and completed in 1959, this New York City landmark celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2009. Thanks to the completion of a three year restoration, the building is more breathtaking than ever. As you ascend the grand spiral that rises toward the dome above, you’ll experience the Guggenheim’s special exhibitions—featuring celebrated artists from the 19th century through the present—in an “uninterrupted, beautiful symphony,” just as Wright intended over 50 years ago.

FEATURED EVENT

ART AFTER DARK: FIRST FRIDAYS
Fri, Nov 6, 9 pm-1 am

Composed of the Brooklyn duo Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel, Holy Ghost! (DFA) is one of the most exciting acts to recently come out of the indie-disco scene. Take in their clean and powerful sound as you ascend the Guggenheim’s spiraling ramp to see Kandinsky, the exhibition described by the New York Times as "sensational." During your visit, see how Kandinsky took inspiration from music in his pioneering efforts toward abstraction.

Please note: The November and December Art After Dark: First Fridays events will have priority admission for members and strictly limited capacity. Make sure to become a member and get in line early! Art After Dark will return in 2010 with new events and special offers for members.
