About me:
THANKS FOR VISITING GUIDED MISSILE'S MYSPACE HOME. THIS WHOLE GETTING SENT MESSAGES THING IS GETTING WAY OUTTA HAND AND SO JUST SO YOU DON'T THINK WE ARE BEING RUDE I'D LIKE TO PERSONALLY APOLOGISE FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO REPLY TO EVERY MESSAGE WE RECEIVE. WE GET ABOUT 100 PER WEEK AND DO LISTEN TO EVERY BAND WHO ASKS US FOR A GIG, BUT TO SEND A REPLY TO EVERY ONE WOULD MEAN ME SPENDING ALL MY TIME DOING THIS WHEN I WOULD MUCH PREFER TO DO SOMETHING MORE CONSTRUCTIVE SUCH AS GET PISSED. WE DO BOOK BANDS FROM THIS NOW AND AGAIN BUT THE CURRENT SITUATION IS THAT WE HAVE ABOUT 10 SQUILLION BANDS TO FIT INTO 12 BILLS PER YEAR. THE ONE THING WE DO ALWAYS LOOK FOR IS BANDS WHO CAN COMFORTABLY PULL OVER 50 PUNTERS TO THE CLUB AS MOST THE BANDS WE LIKE PULL ABOUT 15! THAT SAID, YOU'D STILL NEED TO FIT IN WITH THE SORT OF BANDS WE BOOK WHICH IS SOMEWHERE INBETWEEN BLAND INDIE-BY-NUMBERS STYLE STUFF AND QUIRKY FOR THE SAKE OF IT. (OR WHAT I CALL BEING ON THE CORRECT OR INCORRECT SIDE OF THE BARRON KNIGHTS FENCE) . IN OTHER WORDS WE HAVE A MUSIC POLICY BUT WE CAN'T ACTUALLY EXPLAIN WHAT IT IS. WE JUST KNOW WHEN WE SEE/HEAR IT. DON;T BE OFFENDED. IT'S JUST PERSONAL TASTE. THAT SAID, IF YOU SOUND LIKE EARLY FALL MEETS DEVO MEETS BOGSHED AND HAVE LOADS OF FANS AND NO CURRENT LONDON DATES IN THE DIARY, YOU'RE PRETTY MUCH PORN TO US.

NME INTERVIEW MAY 2006
How long has the night been running?***As a regular club night about 3 years, but on and off since way back in 1994***********Why was it set up?***Orginally to promote the bands on the Guided Missile label.**********Whats been the best ever night? Why?***All things considered it would have to be the 10 Year Anniversary show some 18 months ago when Franz Ferdinand and 4 other acts played at a working mens club in Stoke Newington. It was very Phoenix Nights; glittery backdrop and minty Xmas decorations all over - and we managed to keep it a massive secret in the run-up to the gig!**********Who's played?***Kaito, Art Brut, Les Incompetents, Lego, The Darkness, the Pipettes, Frank Sidebottom, The Nightingales, Semi Finalists, 1990€™s, The Yummy Fur, Country Teasers, Hot Club De Paris, Klaxons, Andy Rourke/Mike Joyce**********Who's djed?***People from Franz, Art Brut and other bands.. plus resident DJs Valerie and Paul Guided Missile**********What's the oddest thing that's ever happened at the night?***At our Easter show (headlined by Klang; Donna from Elastica's new wave project) a posse of dwarves dressed in crudely self assembled rabbit costumes were giving out Easter egg-flavoured vodkas to the punters. Other nights have seen cheerleaders formation dancing to Pink Floyd's The Wall and a bloke who spins plates. And the now infamous Xmas show when Paul Guided Missile, dressed as Father Christmas, rode a Sinclair C5 (spray-painted gold) down the Buffalo Bar stairs and dislocated his shoulder.**********Any local characters?***Not really.**********What's the crowd like?***Hip indie kids.. and some fat old men at the back. DJ Val plays cool indie stuff whilst DJ Sexyworld plays The Fall and Devo. The combination works well and keeps everyone happy all night!**********What's so special about the night?***The fact we dont take ourselves too seriously and the emphasis is on people having fun! There is one overriding criteria for Guided Missile and it's something you see in all of our publicity shots - Top Entertainment, the hallmark of the organization! The bands who play at the club are NEVER standard, straight ahead indie bands. Whether or not its your usual cuppa tea, youll always be entertained and never be bored. The records, whether newbies, indie classics or drunken sing-a-longs are always great to dance to. The clubs great fun. Simple as that. ********** What's the club's anthem?***Id love to tell you its something really cool, but realistically its Dont Stop Me Now **********
What normally happens on a usual night?***We open the doors at 8.30pm, Paul Guided Missile DJs with interesting records until the bands start shortly after 9pm, come midnight the live musics all over and the DJs take over. The revellers switch from bottles of beer to JD and cokes and dance their asses off, come 3am we are all sampling the flavoured vodka shots, Paul Guided Missile is trying to slip shite like Men Without Hats, The Look and JoBoxers into the set but Val stands strong and keeps the indie kids entertained with Tom Vek, Arctic Monkeys, Gang Of Four, Franz, New Order and the like. Then at 4am a now very drunk Paul Guided Missile finally gets his own way, plays Pipes Of Peace as the last record of the night and walks around the dancefloor singing it, arms aloft, while everyone else queues for the cloakroom.********** Any celebs/band ever turn up? *** Yes, but usually too late and they cant get in. Fuck em.********** When: 2nd Sat of the month 8.30 - 3 or 4am.
How Much: 5 quid before the bands / 3 after *
