    Guilherme Castro plays electric bass and guitar. His latest projects include the latin jazz combo "Brazil Jazz Quartet" and the world music band "L'Art de Passage". His book "Brazilian Rhythm Section Training" has been published by Advance Music (http://www.advancemusic.com/) in 2009. It is a workbook for drummers, bass players, guitarists, keyboarders and all those who are interested in Brazilian music. It concentrates on rhythm, showing different aproaches for these instruments as well as explaining their interaction in a band. Since 1995 Guilherme has been teaching at the Jazz Department of the University of Arts (UdK-Berlin), which later became part of the JIB-Jazz Institut Berlin (http://www.jazz-institut-berlin.de/). He also teaches at the Musikschule City-West in Berlin. Guilherme has been living and working in Berlin since 1982, when he started the group Amazonas together with Dudu Tucci and Ronaldo Folegatti. He has played with musicians such as Rolf Zielke, Charlie Mariano, Hendrik Meurkens, David Friedman, Till Brönner, Peter Weniger, Christian Grabandt, Dan Gotschall, Reggie Moore, Ralf Rickert, Justo Perez, as well as with singers such as Katja Ebstein, Jocelyn B. Smith, Pete Wyoming Bender, Kara Johnstad and Céline Rudolph. He started his career in the late 1970's in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he played and composed for the local drama scene. He also worked with singer/composer Eduardo Dusek. Guilherme was a member of the Banda de Lá, a Latin jazz group and a musical lab for young musicians, in which he had the pleasure to work with and learn from band mates later to become leading Brazilian musicians.

Bio:

Guilherme Castro plays electric bass and guitar. He started his career in the late 1970’s in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he played and composed for the local drama scene. He also worked with singer/composer Eduardo Dusek. Guilherme was a member of the Banda de Lá, a Latin jazz group and a musical lab for young musicians, in which he had the pleasure to work with and learn from musicians later to become leading Brazilian artists such as Carlos Malta, Márcio Bahia and Arthur Maia, among others. Guilherme has been living and working in Berlin (Germany), since 1982, when he started the group Amazonas together with Dudu Tucci and Ronaldo Folegatti. Since then he has been regularly invited to join many bands, do studio work, TV and radio, as well as live performances. He has played with musicians such as Charlie Mariano, Hendrik Meurkens, David Friedman, Till Brönner, Peter Weniger, Christian Grabandt, Dan Gotschall, Reggie Moore, Ralf Rickert, Justo Perez as well as with singers such as Jocelyn B. Smith, Pete Wyoming Bender, Kara Johnstad and Céline Rudolph. He has currently been playing with German singer Katja Ebstein. He has been touring Germany with the jazz trio Hot Impressions for the past 6 years together with Rolf Zielke (kb) and Rolo Rodriguez (dr) (http://www.myspace.com/hotimpressions). Guilherme started teaching in 1988 at the Musikschule Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in Berlin, where he still works regularly. In 1995 he started teaching at the Jazz Department of the University of Arts (UdK-Berlin), later to become a part of the JIB-Jazz Institut Berlin (http://www.jazz-institut-berlin.de/).
