   About Guillermo Celano
Guillermo Celano Guillermo Celano Guitarist and composer Guillermo Celano was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1977. After finishing his musical education at the E.M.P.A. (in Bs.As.) he traveled to Amsterdam where he got his Master degree in music at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2001 he started his personal project “Celano-Baggiani Group”. In 2002 he recorded this project where he performed own compositions and arrangements, this CD has gotten many satisfactory reactions in the jazz-magazines. “This new CD says very good things about this young musician as a composer and as a improviser” Auvo Laaksonen, Jazz Rytmit. Finland, february 2003 Between 2003 and 2007 he has been performing weekly with his personal project “Celano-Baggiani Group and guests”. During this period he had the chance to perform with different names: Michael Moore, Jasper Bloom,Thomas Winther Andersen, Arnold Dooyeweerd, Flin van Hemmen, Natalio Sued, Ernst Glerum, Sven Schuster, Jesse van Ruller, Michael Vatcher, Andrew Bergmann, Robin Verheyen, Tyler Wood, Lars Dietrich, Joris Rulof and some more. In December 2005 the Celano-Baggiani Group released their first CD, “Figuras” (BAU records). “G. Celano and M. Baggiani... have done a CD where apparently simple ideas create the space for sophisticated developments, colored by the reminiscence of tango and folk rhythms” Jonio González, Cuadernos de Jazz - Madrid, Spain may / June 2006 “A statement with a modern structure…A creative edification of atmospheres” "G. Celano as a soloist: Reflexive, he likes to take armonic winding ways. A kind of moderated futurist who likes to take melodies to open them. He uses the rests in a very intelligent way and he likes to develop a sort of orchestral arrangements". Cesar Pradines, La Nación - Buenos Aires 26-12-05 “Figuras… introduces through its strong harmonies, rhythms and colors from the Argentinean folk and tango, with a wide space for improvisation” Telam, Edición Nacional - Digital Edition 17-02-2006. In march 2006 he recorded a new CD with the Celano-Baggiani Group “Simple Songs”, with Michael Moore (www.ramboyrecordings.com) on sax and clarinet and Sven Schuster on bass; the CD was released in july 2007 by MDR Records. "Simple Songs is a very mature CD".... "A strong nostalgic atmosphere rich in sounds and colours"...."the guitar plays open and long chords opening different spaces"..."With a little bit of distorsion during the solos Celano can cut through and been lirical at the same time; he can fly out of the tonality and come back with the right timing".... La Nacion 08-2008 "A few beautiful original tunes and a couple of well known tunes. G. Celano's and Michael Moore's ideas have made a refreshing and pleasing oasis of this album" Esteban Sehinkman, El intruso. Buenos Aires March 2007. In September 2008 thier third CD came out Celano-Baggiani Group "Nothing changes" (Trytone), Featuring Michael Moore on alt sax and clarinet (www.ramboyrecordings.com) and Gorka Benitez on Tenor sax and flute (www.gorkabenitez.com). The CD Presentation took place at the Bimhuis...................................................................................................................... " The quartet of Amsterdam-based Argentinians Guillermo Celano and Marcos Baggiani played a beautiful set... the tune No Moe from Sonny Rollins was vividly deconstructed and a wonderful poetic version of the old (film) hit Ojos Verdes from 1929 with very tasteful string and pedal playing of Celano." NRC, Franz van Leeuwen, Amsterdam 19-09-08......................................................................................................................... "Nothing changes is their third album. The musical contribution of the different members is mixed in a refined and harmonic way.... far away in the distance you can hear tango, the bass is playing a passionate line, then a caribic rhythm comes up, it goes slowly to a heavy rock and again a beautiful ballad"....."The atmosphere on the CD is relaxed but the melancolie and the blues are not too far." Het Parool, Maartje den Breejen, Amsterdam 14-01-09................................................................................................................................. ¨Like in a good poetry book, the first track on this CD summarized the upcoming beauty... *****(5/5 stars) Remco Takken, Jazzism. Eindhoven, Netherland. Februari 2009......................................................................................................................................................................... "The Celano Baggiani Group left us astonished. This quartet built around a guitarist and a drummer from Argentina begins from simple melodic ideas. From there it grows slowly towards a whole exciting and complex music, which at the same time remains still melodic". Kindamuzik, Sven Schlijper; Tilburg 24-09-08 ................................................................................................................................................................................. "...the quintet is playful and lightfooted. The song Chacareta dances elegantly and flies away around the corner with Celano's guitar experiments. In Antiglobalismo, Celano's roots rise the most ...with a beautiful Baggiani's drum work and the always appealing sound of Moore. ...the horns blend very good together, the sensitive tone of Moore and the broad sound of Benitez keep each other in balance". Herman te Loo, Jazz Magazine "JazzFlits". Amsterdam, 2 februari 2009............................................................................................................................. In 2003 he took part on another project,“Intuit Quintet”, together with Natalio Sued (ts); David Fettmann (as); Arnold Dooyeweerd (db) and Flin van Hemmen (dr). In 2004 the CD recorded with Intuit Quintet was released “Istmo”(BAU records) 2003. Between 2003 and 2005 he performed with Intuit Quintet throughout Europe............................................................................................................................ In 2005 he started playing with “Big Grin Trio” with Rodrigo Reijers and Flin van Hemmen; In 2007 they recorded their first CD together which came out in december 2008. ................................................................................................¨Guillermo Celano is an interesting new guitarist in the dutch scene. He comes from Argentina and mixes melodies from his homeland with improvised noise and crosswise accents....¨ Remco Takken, Jazzism. Eindhoven, februari 2009........................................................................................................................................ In april 2008 the group "Thelonius 4" releases his first CD playing the music of Th. Monk. A. Metzler on bass, I. Spaargaren on sax, J. Bakker on drums and G. Celano on guitar. During the last years he has been colaborating as a side men in different projects, among which: "Jargon ensemble" playing the music of Maurice Horsthuis, Paul van der feen quartet, Flin van hemmen quintet, Andreas Metzler's new solutions quartet, Narcissus quartet, Thelonius 4, Intuit Quintet, Babak maddah group, Gismo, Julia Oschewsky and band. .........................................................................................................................................................................................
