Guillermo Sexo Bio 2008
GUILLERMO SEXO:
Reuben Bettsak
Noell Dorsey
Mark Fede
Album: Magic Lanterns-2008
Recorded/Engineered by: Justin Pizzoferrato at Bank Row
Mixed by Justin Pizzoferrato at Woolly Mammoth
Mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless
Guillermo Sexo is finished with their new album, "Magic Lanterns." This 13 song, 59
minute long album is "haunting, powerful, and is filled with psych-tinged rock, noisy
anthems, and beautiful songs. This album is a headphones masterpiece..
Noell´s powerful, and unique vocals, and intense lyrics, mixed with the
band´s varied, and outstanding songwriting focus, make the songs on this album quite
memorable. The catchy, dark rock of the last album (Oh Wow-2006) is still heard within
some of the songs on Magic Lanterns, but there is more "letting loose, more freakout, and
more variety, and darkness. The band recorded this album with Justin Pizzoferatto at his
new Bank Row studio, in Greenfield, MA.
Guillermo Sexo is already planning two tours, and Noell Dorsey´s incredible range, and
and keyboard playing sounding of loud guitars will be heard! Mix that with Reuben´s
psych guitar/vocals, and massive array songs, and Mark Fede´s flowing, merciless beats,
and you´ve got Magic music.
SOME PRESS:
Of all the various band names that get tossed around the local music scene, "Guillermo Sexo" is arguably one of the more fun ones to say. Their vibrant sound, in the line of rhythm-heavy psychedelia, slinks sinuously around on the floor and then suddenly cracks like a Day-Glo bullwhip, leaving neon paint spatters on the walls that won't soon wash off. Their sound is artistic without being artsy, and they show no signs of slowing down or giving up. "Guillermo Sexo" is as fun to hear as it is to say---North East Performer

Oh Wow
A bit of unnecessary background: Theres this video clip floating around Dig HQ. Its taken from the worst porno ever; the girl just sits there, post-money shot, rolling her eyes and halfheartedly mumbling, Oh wow. Oh oh wow. Which is half the reason I was so excited for Oh Wow, the debut from locals Guillermo Sexo. Insider-porn innuendo aside, Oh Wow is some impressive worka load of dark, swirling, jagged indie fare interspersed with Bukowski name-checking, acoustic numbers, and bouts of Spanish- and French-language folk. That doesnt make any sense, but it does over headphones; standouts include the delicate duet Seashell and the relentless yet brutal Yvette Violette.

BUY GUILLERMO SEXO OH WOW BELOW!!!
Guillermo Sexo takes the stage first with a bracing set of sophisticated, Spanish-tinged post punk. Damned if they haven’t replaced their previous brilliant rhythm section with one that’s even better. Melodic basslines undulate around snappy, syncopated drums and Reuben’s staccato guitar while Jess plays keys and sings with feisty authority. Her gamine beauty reminds me of Anais Nin as a blonde, 21st century punk rocker. Reuben’s an equally charismatic performer, sometimes singing in Spanish, which lends an aura of mystery. The music’s melancholy yet quick, edgy and full of changes that flow organically from one section to the next. Sounds rise and fall, carried forward by a chaotic momentum, yet the songs are solid and hold together nicely. I’m reminded variously of Blonde Redhead, Siouxie & the Banshees, and The Rapture. Get their CD, Oh Wow—just get it. Have you realized that upside down, its title is Mom Ho?--The Noise

We here at HELPER have heard that it's awful hard to get to get guitar strings in Cuba. We've also noticed that i t's pretty easy to get them around here. We did the math.
