Dan Van Buskirk, a Vietnam Veteran, has always been passionate about helping Vets. Two years ago, while Dan was taking guitar lessons from Patrick Nettesheim, he began to recognize a significant improvement with his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). That is when the idea was born. Together they started Guitars For Vets (G4V), a non-profit organization designed to enhance the lives of injured and ailing Vets by providing them with free guitars and music instruction.
The first classes started at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, WI in 2007, with the hope that self-expression through music would help restore the feelings of joy and purpose that can be lost after suffering trauma. G4V is now expanding to other VA Medical Centers, with program requests coming in from across America. G4V is operated by an all-volunteer staff. Your support of this mission will bring hope & peace to many.
Current G4V Chapters:
Wisconsin - Milwaukee, Madison, La Crosse, Tomah
Texas - Houston
Minnesota - Minneapolis opening in Sept.
Missouri - St. Louis opening in Sept.
Illinois - Chicago area chapters opening in Oct.
We certainly appreciate any efforts in spreading the word. Requests are coming in from all over the country for this program and we are doing our best to expand when ready to fulfill the mission = volunteers in place, resources/funding, etc. to begin a new chapter.
