About me:

..

When the 2007 Texas Color Guard Circuit season arrived, the Gulf Coast Sound Winter Guard was born. The original Winter Guard consist of 7 members, ages ranging from 13 to 30 years and up. Not wanting to turn anyone away by focusing on experience or age, the guard decided to honor the love of the sport and chose to compete in the only category in which all 7 members were allowed to spin, the Independent World Class. This decision turned out to create a very positive atmosphere and helped attract many new recruits.
In 2008, with 14 all new winter guard members, the guard moved into the Independent A Class and finished the season out with the TCGC Independent A Championship Title.
Although experiencing the winter guard program was incredibly exciting, GCS made its decision to not return to the winter scene. Instead, they will focus all its attention back to their first love, Summer field shows.

Gulf Coast Sound is the only competitive all-age drum and bugle corps in South Texas. We have been serving the people of Houston and the surrounding areas for six years and during that time have competed regionally and nationally on the Drum Corps Associates circuit, the Texas Color Guard Circuit, the Drum Corps Midwest Circuit, and the Drum Corps Associates South circuit. The Corps earned first place honors in the Texas Color Guard Circuit in 2002 and second place in its division in 2003. Since 2004, the Corps competed against rivals from all over the world at the DCA Championships. In 2009 the Corps will again travel to the DCA World Championships, once again in Rochester, NY.

In addition to summer performance activities, Gulf Coast Sound has appeared at numerous local events and has founded "Brass on the Bayou", the first DCA Show in Texas. GCS is also the only drum corps chosen to participate in the Galveston Island celebration of Mardi Gras and the H-E-B Thanksgiving Day Parade each year. The Corps supports the Drum Corps Tigers organization as well with a yearly concert at their fundraising lunch.

Gulf Coast Sound provides a valuable learning experience for people of all ages, giving them the opportunity to learn and develop musical and performance skills, to travel across the country performing in many different arenas and to learn the disciplines necessary to function as a contributing member of a highly motivated team. The drum corps activity is not a marching band. While similar in nature, drum corps is so much more. We work hard and develop family-like relationships with the members of our Corps. Friendships and memories made while part of a drum corps last a lifetime!
