I wrote that quote/poem (I’ve never quite known what to call it) in a letter to a friend in late 2002. It wasn’t in the body of the letter, but written in the margin. Unrequited love was the theme of the letter, and I was just clarifying my thoughts. When she got the letter, Catherine mentioned how much she and her mother had liked the “thing i wrote on the side”, and that I could copyright it by posting it on poetry.com. So I did, and didn’t think much of it for quite awhile. In late 2005, I entered my last name into a search engine and was suprised to return hundreds of results, “Hollemans” isn’t that common a name. When I followed the links I realized many of them were posts or personal pages containing my quote. It had apparently been a finalist for poetry.com’s monthly contest (earning honorable mention) and other people liked it. About me:
33,SWM,no children, never married, live in a trailer in my moms front yard in tampa florida, work in restaurant/service my whole life, never made more than 20000 i dont think, i dont care. i was born in sarasota but my mom got locked up and i was adopted when i was 4 years old. i grew up in jenison, michigan with my biological/adopted brother and adopted sister. ok until early teens, then i left. ended up a homeless, drunk gutter punk in denver.traveled a bit. got my (biological) parent's numbers at 22yo and hitchiked to tennesee to meet my dad then came here to tampa to meet my mom. started working again, ended up in rehab and eventually quit drinking on November 11th, 2001. started waiting tables instead of cooking, which is ok. i like to play poker. in 03 i met my older sister she moved down here for 3 years. my biological father died. mike, the blood brother i grew up with lives in jersey. amy, my adopted sister, and dennis, my blood brother that i met when i was 23, both live in michigan, where all my siblings were born. my blood sister, and best friend- Sue- lives in rock island, illinois.
