Despite having come from very different backgrounds, GUNDOGS were all raised in the broken heart of the industrial Midlands, and remain acutely aware of the disillusionment that the area continues to enfranchise across generations...
The desire to excel and to achieve way beyond expectations has become GUNDOGS' mission-statement. To plough forward without regard for consequence, to skirmish with a chequered past which is forever nipping at their heels, to expose every raw nerve to every audience and, above all to communicate at all costs are all concepts which have turned from fears into ambitions. Ambitions which pervade GUNDOGS output in every word and every phrase...
The band was fused together two and a half years ago by a mutual love for the fierce individuality of acts like Prince, Pixies and Madonna, the unbridled savagery of the Pistols and the Clash, the chaotic introspection of Sonic Youth and Nirvana and the sheer primitive eroticism of Bowie, Nine Inch Nails and Patti Smith...
Maria and Leila had helped each other out of a gut-full of bad situations and become strong friends. They began to write and perform together detailing the ties that bound them. GUNDOGS proceeded to go through bass-players like William S. Burroughs did smack, until they met Raven (who is the brother of the late, great, iconic, Killing Joke, Prong, Society 1, Mob Research, Godflesh, Pigface & Ministry bassist Paul Raven) at the worst toilet in Wolverhampton, where he told them that they had no choice...Sold...
Establishing a concrete line-up allowed GUNDOGS the freedom to develope an identity rather than a direction, to explore as a democratic family, in love with each other and thirsty. The process of writing and recording became fun, vital and intense, and reflected into incendiary live performances which initially had balls in abundance and quickly found the class and swagger to match...
Support slots & tours with the likes of The Kooks, Sex Pistols, Neds Atomic Dustbin, Kill Hannah, The Twang, The Wildhearts, Iggy Pop & The Stooges, Supergrass, Futureheads, Ian Brown, The Zutons, The Cribs, Editors, Longview, Mystery Jets, Happy Mondays, Stone Gods, The Enemy, The Holloways, New Young Pony Club, The Blackout, The Automatic, and Mindless Self Indulgence...amongst others!!! have helped the band create an overall performance that is intense and has the unique ability to leave you feeling oh so good, if not a little dirty!..
