Gunnar Malstrom's Comedian Bio
|
| Bio | Gunnar Malstrom was born and raised in Chicago IL. He recognized his passion for performing at a very young age. Gunnar started doing stand up comedy at the age of 10. Every week his sisters would put on a dance recital for his father and stepmother in their basement and Gunnar was the opening act. He would tell jokes and sing. He wrote his first song, I dont Know at the age of 10.
Gunnar developed his talents while attending Johnson Bible College in Knoxville Tennessee. His student film Live at the Lake won an Ashley award for best film at a college film festival, as well as finishing runner up in the best actor category. While in college he also wrote, produced, sang, and played bass on several CDs.
However, it wasnt until he got his first radio job on WJBC that his career was set in motion. The Gunnar Malstrom Show was a major hit, and gained instant popularity on his college campus.
Gunnar got his big break in 2002 when he became an associate producer/on-air talent on The Kevin Matthews Show, on WCKG 105.9 FM radio (CBS Radio Chicago). Gunnar played a crucial role in some of the funniest moments during his tenure with the Kevin Matthews Show. Moments like when he got shot with paintballs, invaded a health club, and of course posed for pictures in his underwear on Kevin Matthews webpage. While working on the show Gunnar even interviewed celebrities like Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman, Robert Redford, Sam Mendes, Jimmy Fallon, and even Peter Youll Shoot Your Eye Out Billingsley from A Christmas Story. While at a press conference, one of his questions to Robert Redford made every major Chicago Newspaper, as well as most of the television news station in Chicago.
Later in the year Gunnar made the hardest decision of his life when he decided to leave the show and pursue a career in comedy. He trained at the Legendary Improv Olympics, the same training facility that jumpstarted the careers of comic legends Mike Myers, Vince Vaughn, Chris Farley, Jon Favreau, Tina Fey, Andy Dick Amy Poehler, and many others.
While at Improv Olympics Gunnar met Matt Ballek and Joe Delulio, two fellow comedians who came together and formed Rule of Three Productions, whose Wide Open Mic comedy contest transcended the comedy scene in the Chicagoland area.
Gunnar continues to perform at Comedy Clubs, Colleges, Churches, and Coffee Houses across the United States, and is marrying his beautiful fiance Ada Rodriguez next fall. He is a two time winner of The Comedy Spots New Talent Comedy Competition as well as a finalist for the Juz Jokkin comedy Competition. | | Website | funnygunny.com | | Influences | Kevin Matthews
