When NBC affiliate WDIV, a local Detroit TV station, ran a contest to find an original song for their new commercials, a young band made it to the finals and took everyone by surprise. As a result, Gun Shy took the National Stage at Arts Beats and Eats and opened up for Classic Rockers .38 Special and had .38 Special band members cheering them on from the side of the stage. That performance earned the young band an invite to return to the Pontiac festival the following year. Since then the young band has added to their growing list of accomplishments, by taking top honors at the American Guild of Music Battle of the Bands, releasing their self-titled debut cd in April 2007, as well as a second offering in December 2007. Gun Shy song "Dodgin' Bullets" was featured along with an interview on St. Clair Shores Radio podcast, Wisconsin Music News named "Gun Shy" a My Space Favorite in August 2007, they were invited to perform at the Michigan State Fair where they officially released their newest cd (August 2008). Most recently the group appeared live on the Mitch Albom Show - WJR Radio (November, 2008).
Gun Shy, from the east side of Detroit has been making a name for themselves as more than just another young band...they write songs, love to perform, and they are serious about what they do. Founding members, the Morris brothers, Michael (lead / rhythm guitar & vocals), and David (bass guitar/vocals), have had the great honor of sharing the stage with many talented musicians, including, Lance Johnson (drums), Kate "Cat" Hernalsteen (vocals / keyboard / synth) and the band's newest addition Chris Sieradzki (rhythm guitar). This group of seriously talented musicians brings so much to the stage, you quickly realize they are more than your average teenaged garage band. Band members range in age from 14-17, and have a uniquely different sound that is heavily influenced by Classic Rock with an alternative twist. The band's primary focus is original music with a few favored covers thrown in.
Each of Gun Shy's members brings influences that, when combined, are an ecclectic and electric mix of yesterday and today's hard and alternative rock. Gun Shy makes music beyond their years. They are passionate about what they do and they have a big, rocking sound that makes an audience stand up and take notice.
Don't let their ages fool you, "Gun Shy" ... is anything but!
