When NBC affiliate WDIV, a local Detroit TV station, ran a contest to find an original song for their new commercials, a young band made it to the finals and took everyone by surprise. As a result, Gun Shy took the National Stage at Arts Beats and Eats, opening for Classic Rockers .38 Special and had .38’s band members cheering them on, stage-side. That performance earned the young band an invite to return the following year. Since then, the band has added to their growing list of accomplishments: top honors at the American Guild of Music Battle of the Bands, debut cd released in April 2007 and a second offering later that year, "Dodgin' Bullets" was the featured song along with an interview on local St. Clair Shores Radio podcast, named a “My Space Favorite” in August 2007 by Wisconsin Music News, performed at the Michigan State Fair officially releasing a third cd (August 2008), featured band Mitch Albom Show - WJR Radio (November, 2008), as well as, WHFR 89.3 FM (May, 2009). Summer 2009 brought them to larger stages at such prestigious events as the Stars and Stripes Festival, Gratiot Charity Cruise, the St. Clair Riverfest, Port Huron Boats, Balloons and Barbeques, Kiwanis Harper Charity Cruise, a return to the Michigan State Fair and participation in the Assemblyline Concert which has since been certified by the Guinness Book of World Record for the World’s longest live musical performance by multiple artists. The band has been busy recording their highly-anticipated, full-length album, planned for release later this fall.
Gun Shy, from the east side of Detroit has been making a name for themselves as more than just another young band...they write songs, love to perform, and they are serious about what they do. Each of Gun Shy’s members brings influences that, when combined are an eclectic and electric mix of yesterday and today’s hard and alternative rock. Founding members, the Morris brothers, Michael (lead / rhythm guitar & vocals), and David (bass guitar/vocals), are joined by Lance Johnson (drums), Kate "Kat" Hernalsteen (vocals / keyboard / synth) and newest member Dave Edwards (rhythm guitar). This group of seriously talented musicians brings so much chemistry to the stage, you quickly realize they are more than your average teenaged garage band. Band members range in age from 15-18, and have a uniquely different sound that is heavily influenced by Classic Rock with an alternative twist and a primary focus on original music. They are passionate about what they do and they have a big, rocking sound that makes an audience stand up and take notice.
Don’t let their ages fool you; “Gun Shy” … is anything but!
