//ENGLISH// Guralumi was born of an encounter between Gjon Guralumi and Krenar Arifi at the Lausanne Jazz School Its founders’ Balkan roots naturally predisposed the duo to the practice of jazz and of the folk music of their native lands. After two years as a duo, they decided to flesh out the group—which eventually evolved into the present-day sextet.
The group prides itself on its pioneering cultural and musical mixes. Sung exclusively in Albanian, the lyrics are highlighted by the alto sax’s sinuous musical line while the rhythm section’s freewheeling improvisations underscores the personality of each musician. So Guralumi is really ideally suited to live performances, as the following new album “ albanianjazzproject” demonstrate.

//FRANCAIS// Né de la rencontre au sein de l'Ecole de Jazz de Lausanne entre Gjon Guralumi et Krenar Arifi. L'origine balkanique des deux membres fondateurs oriente naturellement le répertoire de "Guralumi" vers une fusion entre le Jazz et le folklore de leurs pays d'origine. Aprés deux ans de pratique en duo, ils décident d'agrandir la formation. C'est ainsi que naîtra le projet sous sa forme actuelle, à savoir un sextet.
Cette formation se veut novatrice par son mélange culturel et musical, les textes, exclusivement chantés en albanais, sont mis en relief par les mélopées du saxophone alto, la formule développée par la section rythmique laisse une grande place à l'improvisation, soulignant ainsi la personnalité de chaque musicien. "Guralumi" est donc résolument un groupe de scène, comme vous le laisseront entendre ces titres du nouvel album “albanianjazzproject” sortie en janvier 2006.
