About me:
I am, as you may have guessed, a SHOP and have been around since 1972 in Darlington selling great ethnic and alternative clothes, music T shirts and merchandise, unusual gifts and cards, crystals and incense, and all manner of other weird and wonderful stuff to all kinds and ages of people with the imagination to apreciate something different and unique... I like to think I'm not just about making money as I have always been about so much more than that, in that I and my staff respect and care about our customers and try to treat them well...and many of them have over the years become our good friends. I am a trader yet I hate all out consumerism as I think shops can be about communication with people as well as profit, and hopefully at Guru we have manged to demonstrate that fact and will go on for many years doing just that! Now here comes the advert bit as we do have to spread the word after all... I have my own website at www.gurudarlington.co.uk and www.guruboutique.co.uk where you can see a lot of our fab stuff and buy things if you feel inclined (no pressure 'though), and there's also a page on our website devoted to music and reviews of gigs under the heading 'Blues and other good music'. The Guru-ites who started me with love were Irene and her daughter Beryl, and now I am faithfully served by Beryl (as her mam Irene my founder sadly passed away in 2005), and a very wise and very capable friend called Tony (aka the Darlo Llama), Colin (who's into all kinds of music, and is kind enough to drive us to gigs and trade shows etc., in big bad blue, his rangerover), and the wonderful Kelly (who looks after not only our mystical section, but all of us so well that I don't know what we'd do without her)... I also have had many other good helpers over the years and my present lovely Saturday girl is Kay! We also have Bandit and Harley our two Guru dogs and fondly remember Lucky and Tiger who preceded them!

Who I'd like to meet:
Lots of really cool people...both old friends who may have been in to visit me, and know me already, and hopefully many new friends who will become part of the Guru phenomena...also anyone who's interested in moving forward whilst not throwing away things of value from our past,(that's something called continuity - a bridge between past and future - which leads to natural, non traumatic change and progress, and is more important to society that some give it credit for being). I have compiled and published a book, about this and the way traumatic physical change affected my communtiy. The book is called 'That Darlington Way' and is now on sale in Guru, or from our website or to order from most bookshops...or can be read for free in Darlington Library or The British Library...

Hey there,

Here's one from left field...

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?

A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:

Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella

Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.

Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.

I encourage all to visit the YouTube page to learn more (Show support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly circulate as widely as possible, here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaIim3Rj7L4

Help to raise awareness.

Say have you checked out my web site recently?

Take care and keep in touch.

Best,
Faber.
