GuRzUnZ are a humble tribute to the late great Michael Gerzon (1945-1996) The Audio industry lost a major contributor to the future of audio recording and reproduction when Michael passed away. His 121 published papers cover a wide variety of subjects - most, but not all, concerned with audio - and his contribution to the art and science of recording and reproduction is major and truly innovative.
A warm, generous man with a great passion for music. Sorely missed.........

Michael Gerzon was a genius who dedicated his life to the furtherance of his two passions: audio engineering and mathematics.
Best known for inventing Ambisonics and the Soundfield Microphone, he was also a prolific sound recording engineer whose archive of recorded material is now stored for the nation in The British Library National Sound Archive. Having studied at Oxford University, his post-graduate work at The Mathematical Institute was primary concerned with axiomatic quantum theory. His other inventions include DVD-Audio, Lossless Data Compression algorithms and numerous software-based audio engineering tools which today are the mainstay of modern digital music production techniques. He also wrote enormous amounts of poetry and owned one of the largest and most valuable rare vinyl record collections ever amassed.
Dead at the age of just 50 in 1996 from complications due to Asthma, his obituaries included the prediction that thirty years from now people will marvel at how we, in our time, were blessed to have been in Michael's company; yet, many of his inventions may not be fully understood or utilised for decades to come.
'Michael Gerzon - Beyond Psychoacoustics' is the result of more than five years of painstaking, detailed research undertaken by author Robert Charles Alexander, travelling across the world interviewing friends, family and colleagues of Michael Gerzon, piecing together the definitive study of a man who can truly be called a 'genius'.
Written by Robert Charles Alexander and entitled 'Michael Gerzon - Beyond Psychoacoustics' (ISBN 0-9748438-2-2) it defines the nature of a man whose true greatness, influence and achievements may well not be fully recognized until well into the 21st Century....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Disobedient tub thumping and grimacing overdriven electric planks of wood meander, bend and stutter grinning and undisciplined through the sprawling, contemplative, free-flow G-G-GURZUNZ jazz'n'roll compositions. Dreamy distorted sustain. Oh Matron! Floods of tangled pulsing discord peppered with mongrel percussion. Kiss me again Mabel! Moody, jarring, drifting, intriguing, depressing, uplifting, bile inducing, ecstatic noose tightening heavenly noise dirt...tra la! tra la!
Mick Clack and Dale Marshall have played in and out of bands in the Oxford area for the past 150 years or so. eg The Earwigs, Bodily Functions, Cabasa, Flat Hill House Band, Yelford Allstars, The Dwoms , Kites A-Z, The Worried Men, The Blake and A Blake , Frank Fish and the Fins , Wheatfields, Nige and Trev to name but twelve. A burning passion for improvised music and a constant grinding battle to keep the needle of their 'Acme' depression meters from flickering into the red keeps the GURZUNZ churning out their abominable instrumental audio adventures.
Dale and Mick also rear their ugly heads in an experimental/comedy/pop recording project called Nige and Trev who were voted winners in no less than THREE categories in the 2006 International Online Music Awards ....BEST ARTIST, BEST COMPOSER and BEST SONG for 'My Horse will never exist in Reality' which features the drumming talents of the winner of the 2006 IOMA BEST DRUMMER Award.... Mr.Dale 'Jimmy' Marshall......
