My interests include playing and recording music, staying in shape, and golf. The drums are my main instrument. I actually studied privately for years, and since I feel that I can always be a better player, still try to take a lesson here and there with new educators. I try to go to the gym 7 days a week and to eat right and take care of my body. It's the only one that you get, so you gotta take care of it! I'm also a total gearhead! I love drums and cannot spend enough money on studio gear. I could own every mic and mic pre ever made and still want more! I have an assortment of drums made by Spaun Drums and an assortment of Sabian Cymbals, and maybe every piece of hardware under the sun! And also, Walt Disney World is the shit!
Music
I like to listen to as many different styles of music as I can. As a musician, it only broadens my vocabulary. I have recorded albums with an array of artists such as death metal bands, Malevolent Creation, Resurrection and Upon Infliction to pop artists like Ruling Mercury and Ashley Red. I feel as at home playing to a click or pre-recorded backing tracks as I do jamming with a blues or jazz trio. Being the in-house session drummer for Mercury Studios demands that I be able to play, and play well, in any situation that is presented. I can dig and appreciate any style of music, as long as the music is honest and sincere. I recongnize the art of laying down the simplest groove as well as complex, fusion-esque styles. I also have my own instructional column in Sickdrummermagazine.com called "Kit Settings". Be sure to log on and check it out!

Books
Don't really do books. It's not that I don't like to read, but I don't have the time to get into a long book. The only books that I own are drum instruction books and music industry related magazines.
Heroes
Anyone who risks their life for another. period. My dad. All the musicians who have helped shape me into who i am as a player- Vinnie Colaiuta, the consumate pro! Sean Reinert, drum instructor, drum idol, and great friend. Dave Lombardo, the guy who inspired me to start playing the drums in the beginning! Too many others to mention, the list would be too long! oh yeah, and PARADISE LOST, the best band ever!
About me: Musician first, drummer second. That’s the response one would receive upon asking Gus Rios to describe himself professionally. An individual who has never rested on his laurels to just get by in the music industry, Gus Rios is always working and learning to better his craft, be it playing the drums or producing bands. Over 15 years of experience goes into every and any project that Gus gets involved in. Gus started out by getting a guitar at age 8. By the time he was 10, he became more and more aware of what the drummers were doing on his favorite records. Gus then got his first drumset, and what would eventually become his love and passion. Having played in bands for 5 years, Gus felt that it was time to take lessons. Dave Culross was his first teacher who introduced him to proper technique and basic time signatures. Dave had quite an impact on Gus' playing, really taking him out of beginner status and into a properly trained musician. Upon Dave's move back up to NY, Gus, wanting to further educate himself, sought out his drum hero, who happened to live in nearby Miami, Sean Reinert. Sean took Gus to another level, studying jazz, blues, latin, and basically anything that he wasn’t familiar with. Currently Gus is a working live and studio drummer as well as a studio producer and engineer. He has toured all over the US as well as Europe. His absolute professionalism and good attitude make him very easy to work with and very reliable, as well as his ability to play with a click, very comfortably, both live and in the studio. Gus Rios is also an accomplished guitar player and songwriter. Again, he strives to be more than just a great drummer, but a great musician also.
Gus Rios endorses Spaun Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Vic Firth drumsticks, and Evans Drumheads
Who I'd like to meet: Working bands who need a touring drummer and/or a producer to record their album. Anyone who wants to say what's up I guess. WHAT'S UP!
..You don't have to delete comments to run a business bro! If anything, it'll help people see the poularity and positive feedback about ya Gustavo, and it'll help ya get more gigs...
