An inspired debut album borrowing from a big spectrum of rock, from Marillion to The Police to Michael Penn; the theatre of progressive pop condensed into a three minute quote. (Kevin Gilbert anyone ?) think : progressive pop

The new album is called 'Stranger You Know'. Most of the writing and some of the bed tracks have been recorded. Progress is slow, but I am very pleased with the results so far and I think it will be a very strong record. Below is a demo video clip for a work in progress song from 'Stranger You Know'
You hold Gustavo Lovatos CD in your hand and you suspect by the title that he is interested in universal themes. You look at the cover and you think perhaps there is depth to the music and hope that it has drive to hold his ideas and soul to move his listeners.
A few seconds into the CD and you know you were right.
It is possible that someone so traveled as he can not help but have a broader view. Born in Argentina, he quickly found himself living in and visiting countries many of us have only seen in movies : Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Venezuela, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Russia, England, Egypt, Israel and the United States have all left a mark in his person and by extension, his music. And while he wrote he listened. There was Elvis as a child. Then Queen when his age turned to double digits. Then The Police. Then Rush and Pink Floyd - great soundtracks for discoveries.
The album was recorded in single day sessions mostly in Chicago's Gravity Studios by Doug McBride (Frogpond, Veruca Salt, Verbow, Urge Overkill), so it has a freshness that comes from one-take performances and spur of the moment arrangement ideas. The album also features drummer Bill Swartz (Caviar, Fig Dish, Nectarine, The Girls, Ultraswiss) throughout and cellist Eric Remschneider (Smashing Pumpkins, Hole) on 'Minus Me'.
His music uses different moods but is always very much rooted in relevance and never strays into clichés; from the 3 minute rocker that opens the CD, to the acoustic guitar and cello woven Minus Me, to the forward motion in Swallow you get flavors of rock that spike and dip with an underlying force that binds the entire record - the drama of lost relationships depicted in ways both personal and grand.
