Guy Earle's Comedian Bio
|
| Bio | I started doing standup at the age of 5. My mom would have people over for dinner parties and all the adults would sit around the living room while I rotated in the center. I would do Elvis impersonations, TV personalities. The best laughs I got were when I’d do impersonations of the people in the room. Entertaining my class, my school and my town followed. At the age of 8, I was bouncing on my bed listening to Steve Martin records, which I could recite verbatim. My high school years were full of pranks and running around the hall like a lunatic. This was the official start to my stage performances. For the variety show, I starred in 3 different sketches, two of which I wrote, the other, I heavily improvized, made up as the principle. After high school, I moved to Halifax. I got a job while going to Dalhousie. Always focused on that childhood dream to one day be a comic. I was driving, when I heard of a local comedy club on the radio. I didn’t even realize there was a club in Halifax! I did a U and sped to the club. I lost my job, dropped out of University and went on a decade long romp around Canada and USA doing shows in places you wouldn’t believe. After some crazy years, I decided to go back to school. Getting my degree in physics kinda blew my mind and the student loan situation made it a necessity to go to work. I spent the next couple years not really focusing on my comedy. After some 1000 stage appearances, MC’n in godknowswhere, touring with drunken comics and working with the legends of Canadian comedy I needed some reprise. Some years have passed and I’ve been working along in my real job. I’ve been doing shows here and there. I authored a workshop and offered people a standup course which was quite rewarding. My students and I shared great times in our weekly shows. Recently, it occurred to me that life is VERY SHORT. I know I’m not the first to come up with that but the realization has put a bit of a fire under my ass. OK, back in Toronto; kicking ass and taking names... Working on some TV concepts, doing serious comedy shows EVERYWHERE. I want to make my comedy, my movies, my screenplays, develop TV projects and generally follow my childhood heart. Clear the bed ’cause I wanna bounce on it I have written and/or directed over 20 comedy shorts, a pilot talkshow and made appearances on many productions as feature comic. I continue my script development and have fully worked and various stage of completion scripts. "The Story of Buddy Duke" is a feature film ready to shoot. "Blind Encounter" is a short film, in production, about the trials of dating in your thirties. I won the 2007 Golden Shaft Award for best 30 second commercial. | | Website | guyearle.ca | | Influences | Steve Martin (from his Standup days)

Guy Earle's Interests
|
| General | I really have no appreciable interests. I guess I like to drink. Does that count? Really, I'm interested in exploring new land... you know, like the "pioneers"... I'm making this up as I go along. (I think I'd really be more interested in discrediting the 'pioneers' and talk about how we could make this land a little less capital - but let's save that for when we go for a drive in my hummer, shall we?)
Ok, let's see... I like young fertile women - does that count as an interest?
I'm a big fan of steak... and mashes potatoes - can that be an interest?
Horticulture... ya, I like horticulture.
How about archeology, mythology and architecture?
Fast cars?
I'll think more about this...
I remember!
I like fender guitars... lots of fender products...
anything FENDER, let's talk! | | Music | I dunno, I feel like I've hear it, done it... sick of it!
Gimme the classics... but then again, I've heard it all a thousand times. I need something new to knock my socks off. I've become musically jaded. I think I'll go play my guitar now and make my own music. | | Movies | Anything Christopher Guest, Classic Steve Martin, Peter Sellers... Comic legendary.
Deuce Bigalo ? Now that's a classic... anybody see the second movie? "I'm Canadian and I'm drunk!" | | Television | Shows I like?
I gave it some thought... I love the following: Curb Your Enthusiasm and Rescue Me. Those shows I definitely love. Ali G rocks... I'll add more as I think of them, | | Books | Cruel Shoes, by Steve Martin. There really is no other book to read is there? I haven't even read this book... well, fully. I won't... About once or twice a year I'll randomly open Cruel Shoes and read a passage. I just don't want to waste it. You know that feeling when you read something for the first time? Well, you can only have that feeling the once. | | Heroes | Lenny Bruce, Lenny Bruce and Lenny Bruce. I love all the guys who defined stand-up and paved the way for all of us chumps. Lenny Bruce was the originator of this art form and notable others came along and re-defined and tweaked what we now know as 'traditional stand-up': Steve Martin, first comic to book stadiums; George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Bob Newhart, Bill Cosby and more. Those guys were the folks that dug out the trenches...

Guy Earle's Blurbs |
About me:
I'm one wacky dude. You know the life of the party.
I can drink you under the table (wanna bet?)
I'm a lover not a fighter
I'm a martial artist... that is... I paint pictures of sheriffs
I sing and skip, live alone with my cat and I'm not even gay.
I'm generous and honest to a fault?
That doesn't really make too much sense... another trait of mine, I guess is confusion...
|
Who I'd like to meet:
People who find me funny... I really like people who laugh at my stuff. My most favorite people are my fans. Does that sound sick? Depraved? Ego-centric? Well now we're getting somewhere, aren't we?
