THE ARTIST:
Gwyn Farley, (singer, songwriter, composer, pianist) reserves a breath of fresh air with the release of her debut album, My Everything (FALL 2007). This musical stylist challenges highly classical influences and emotionally raw lyrics, by the diversity of a supportive rhythm section. It’s the introduction of a refreshing new relationship to the pop world.
THE RECORDING PROCESS:
The concept of the album’s recording process was to resurrect the organic and earthy sound of recording artists of the past. “It reminds me of Carol King’s Tapestry,” is a common place remark from listeners when My Everything is in the CD player. To create this listening room from 1971, all the Album’s basic tracks were recorded live using an old reel to reel analog machine. Theses songs were then transferred to digital where the finishing touches were mixed and mastered by NYC Producer: Damon Trotta of Sluggo's Goon Music.
THE SOUND OF THE ALBUM:
The feel of the album can't quite be explained by genre, for it encompasses many. Gwyn's delicate piano and beautiful vocals will open your ears to a whole new experience. It becomes a vivid sound-scape, painted through a Chopin-like piano style and the subtle voicing of additional instrumental colors. The album is lyrically urgent, sung with an intensely organic character... one to be noticed and respected. The songs melodic nature, become grounded by the shading and texture of a unique, yet supportive rhythm section. From Jazz to Rock, the percussion plays through a broad spectrum of colors, while the lyrics bring true incarnation to Folk. Add yet a touch of organ, an acoustic guitar and a slide of the petal steel, and a new relationship with music occurs.
Weaving a web through genre, My Everything has a little bit of something for everyone. Take this roller coaster ride of musical highs and lows as the lyrics and melody gently guide you through a completely emotional and thought-provoking experience...one that will intrigue and invite you onto a provocative path of self discovery.
