   About gyan
....Gyan has certainly evolved over the last decade. She is now a hugely gifted composer and a very fine singer in the ..female sensitive.. mode. Her decision to take 18 of Michael Leunig's ..poem-drawings and turn them into songs is inspired.. The result is a genuinely great and original Australian album that Leunig admirers will prize... Bruce Elder, SYDNEY MORNING HERALD ....with range, technique and tonal sensitivity, Gyan matches Leunig's poems with equally fractured beauty in what could be described as chamber folk or symphonic sketches.. Billie holiday and Lucinda Williams would approve.. Lesley Sly, SOUND AND IMAGE MAG ....Billy the Rabbit is a magical and unique journey through the mind of a gentle genius told from the voice of a beautiful and talented singer and is perhaps the most delicate and appropriate partnership between any two unique Australian artists... Shelly Blake, THE PROGRAM ....Gyan's vocals are melancholic, shadowy and even a little eerie, a little reminiscent of Portishead's Beth Gibbons. The album is certainly a beautiful listen.... Brooke Robinson, THE BRAG August 2007....NEWS FLASH.....you can now download "Suburban Opera" from Issa's label Sheeba.ca ..."i'm so thrilled that sleeping beauty can now be heard"...gyan.The beautiful Peter O'Doherty painted the cover art too. HOW WEIRD IS THAT ...NEW BOOK BY GYAN AND M S DAWSON AVAILABLE THRU GOOD BOOKS STORES AND ONLINE AT www.museagency.com gyan evans also at facebook.com Reviewed by Queensland library services; Highly Recommended Abstract: Shortlisted for CBCA Crichton Award 2009. Deep in the Tasmanian forest, a strange and rare creature appears one day, bizarrely evolving into an array of improbable animals. Composed in poetic language enhanced with onomatopoeia and alliteration, this exquisitely illustrated narrative will have broad appeal for its enthralling tale, lyrical expression, artistic style and creativity. Sixteen animals, fashioned by combining two unrelated species, are depicted, finally emerging as a Tasmanian tiger (Thylacinus cynocephalus). The imaginary beasts, ingeniously labelled with concocted scientific names, are listed by their genus and species at the conclusion of the book. Beginning with a ringtail possum with the head of a dog, the hybrids progress through combinations of birds, animals and fish, some cleverly exploiting the play on words (for example: the sea-lion places a lion’s head on a fish’s body). The unconventional playfulness of the large font is used to dramatic effect, toying with the vocabulary, heightening the excitement and adding to the mystery. Dawson’s charcoal sketches on ivory paper deliberately resemble early settlers’ illustrations of the unfamiliar animals they encountered. A deserved award nominee for its illustrations, this picture book will entice the reader to revisit its contents frequently. here's some fun if you've not seen this before. still one of my favorite movies is 'Songcatcher' (much of it is streamed via youtube), with Iris DeMent doing much of it's back work.

a rose
is a rose,
of course
it's a flower,
too
thorns,
too
foliage, sometimes,
too
when they crawl, spiraling
up, down
a terrace of lattice
opening, closing their
lips –
more than amazing.
Then there's you,
the other
flower.

Hi Gyan, I would love a replacement copy of the album with Wait. Is the address on your myspace page up to date so I can send you my mailing info? Will you accept a money order for payment?
I dont know if you have read my profile but I'm a female writer from Geelong, and 'Wait' features in my story at the end. I'm hoping, fingers crossed, that the story will one day become a movie, you gotta have dreams, and if it does then we will hear 'Wait' at the end, permission needed of course, but it fits my story so well it's as if you wrote it for my story, thank you.
Thanks for getting back to me so soon and I wish you well for your Melb. gig on the 23rd?, I wish I could go.

Cya Gyan and happy writing.     Robin

Hello dearest; do you think a few dates in India may still be on the cards? Would loooove for you to appear at The Medicine Show Halloween Special in Delhi, how likely is this? I can help set up a few more dates and help out with musicians if needed. Can we discuss? :) muchas besos xxxxx
