Cassie Hack grew up in a small town in western Wisconsin. Her father left when she was young, and she was raised by her increasingly eccentric mother, who worked as the lunch lady at her high school.
Always an outsider, Cassandra grew into a bitter and sarcastic young woman, considered a freak and a nerd by her classmates. When Cassie was a junior in high school, students began disappearing. Most of these students were those that had mistreated Cassie at one time or another. Concurrently, school lunches began becoming more extravagant, as a delicious new "mystery meat" was added to the menu.
Eventually, it was discovered that Cassie’s mother, the Lunch Lady was killing and cooking the students for consumption. The Lunch Lady was cornered, and took her own life by sticking her head into a pot of boiling water. Cassie grew even more ostracized and she was moved to a foster home and a new school. She detested her stuck up, fanatically religious foster parents, but stuck it out, desiring to be accepted by someone. She began training in various martial arts, and fighting techniques. In the meantime, she tried to find her father, utilizing the internet and whatever resources she could find.
Two years later, students at Cassie’s new school again began disappearing. The vengeful Lunch Lady had returned, as a slasher, an undead murderer driven to continue it's murderous spree. After a ghastly battle, Cassie managed to “destroy” the Lunch Lady. Driven by guilt, and lacking any connection to anyone, Cassie went on the road, seeking out Slashers and stopping their rampages wherever she could. She also hoped that she might find a clue to the whereabouts of her father, but found nothing.
On one of her adventures, Cassie came to Chicago, where she hunted a killer the locals knew as the Meatman. She eventually encountered the Meatman, but also discovered that he was not responsible for the murders. The killings were the works of a local minister/assassin with Mafia Connections. The Meatman, a misshapen man named Vlad became Cassie’s close friend, and he travels with her, and acts as her bodyguard and muscle.
Cassie and Vlad currently travel in a van, which Cassie bought with her inheritance. The money she has left she uses to finance their travels, though she and Vlad occasionally take odd jobs across the country. Not known for being very picky, they have worked at fast food restaurants, bowling alleys and state fairs as they hunt the supernatural killers, and search for Cassie’s long lost father. They are haunted still by the Lunch Lady, who, like every good slasher, is definitely going to be back for more sequels.
Hi! Just wanted to make sure all my friends know that my new erotic horror novel THE 13TH is now in stores everywhere! I hope you'll check out this debauched and demonic horror ride!
There's even a website devoted just to the book, with an interactive map of the places and characters at www.the13th-horror.com.
Edward Lee called THE 13TH "A double-barreled shotgun blast of macabre entertainment -- an expert amalgamation of grotesquerie, eroticism, mystery, and pitch-black occult horror that no fan of the genre can miss."
And Gary A. Braunbeck said, "John Everson's The 13th is the first out-and-out horror novel in a long while to actually scare the **** out of me while reading it. It's stylish, extremely well-written, filled with richly-drawn characterizations, and boasts a labyrinthine plot worthy of Umberto Eco. Trust me -- this one will fry your nerves and break your heart."
"Armed with a devilish wit, quirky dialogue, and a unique, palpable flavor, DROP DEAD GORGEOUS provides readers with a fly-on-the-wall view as the shit gloriously hits the fan in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Where's Bono when you need him?" --Andre Duza, author of DEAD BITCH ARMY
"Intriguing novel from a new emerging talent in the horror genre..." --Dan Henk (Lone Wolf Tattoo)
