    ..The Story - Initially formed in the summer of 2004, The Hackens Boys was founded by three young men who had developed a bond through playing the guitar. Josh Eye, of Bridgewater VA, and his cousin Jeremy Swecker, of Monterey VA, coined the band name from a place in Highland County, Virginia where their family roots and traditions run deep. Joined by Tyler Thomas, of Bridgewater, the threesome began to build their dream of making music from the ground up. After talking Josh’s parents into allowing them to practice full time in the backyard shed, the next task was to find equipment. Tyler had had some previous experience on the drums, so he found an old kit and pieced together some hardware. Jeremy happened to find a vintage 1979 Les Paul custom electric guitar that his uncle owned, and Josh took a gamble by emptying his savings account to upgrade from the karaoke machines we were singing out of. After playing a few backyard three-piece shows, the real turning point came when Tyler’s uncle Linden Holsinger, of Harrisonburg, came out to jam in the shed one day. Lin, a guitarist by nature, had also had experience playing the bass, keyboard, and was at that time the drummer for a band called The Four of Swords out of Harrisonburg. With so much knowledge and know how, Lin was able to help everyone work to become better musicians and learn how to do things the right way. Lin would come out to the shed around once or twice a month just to check in, and then as luck would have it The Four of Swords landed a gig at the Mainstreet Bar and Grill in Harrisonburg and needed an opener. On Feburary 28th, 2006 The Hackens Boys played their first show as an official group, and have not looked back since. In the spring of 2008 the band was voted best local artist in a survey conducted by the Daily New Record. In the winter of that same year they opened for their Texas country hero, Drifter’s Church recording artist Chris Knight. The following year, the band was named best local artist with original songs in the 2009 Daily News Record “Best in the Valley” survey. This was, and still is the most rewarding accomplishment that the Hackens Boys have received due to the fact that it honors their original material. In the summer of 2009, the Hackens Boys were fortunate enough to open for Broken Bow recording artist Craig Morgan. Playing to a crowd upwards of 4,000 people was an unbelievable opportunity, and one that the band will never forget. The summer of 2009 also brought with it a change in the band’s line-up. After a work accident forced lead guitarist and original member Jeremy Swecker to take a leave of absence, Bart Morris of Harrisonburg has been a great blessing. Bart’s rock heavy background accompanied with an outstanding vocal range and ear for music has made him a perfect fit. The Hackens Boys look forward to their next opportunity, opening for Big Karma recording artist Blackberry Smoke in the fall of 2009. With 120 plus shows under their belts, the band continues to grow with each performance. In the months to come they look to branch out into some new territory, and focus on writing new original music. With a versatile cast and vast creativity, the sky is the limit in 2010. .. .. Our set ranges from rock legends Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Pearl Jam to classic and contemporary country artists like Jason Aldean, Sammy Kershaw, and David Lee Murphy. We also like to pay tribute to our Texas Country heroes Cross Canidian Ragweed, and Chris Knight. With such a variety to choose from, we can cater to nearly any type of environment or crowd who is willing to have a good time. Our music is characterized melody and timing accompanied with great vocal harmonies that really set things apart. On top of everything, the defining aspect of our band is our great fan base. “The Hack Pack” is the group who brings the party, and a major reason why we have such a good time doing what we do. Each and every show is special to us, and is another opportunity to do something that few can say they have done. Live it and Love it. THB
