HAIL! – A BRIEF HISTORY .... HAIL! is a global touring machine composed of a tight knit brotherhood of Metal's most highly respected contributors to the genre. .... The past several years of touring has cemented a bona-fide worldwide presence for HAIL! and created a wonderful story of fan appreciation, good will, fun and growth. As part of our growth we have had the great fortune of sharing the stage with an amazing array of very diversified and talented players who generously supported us - musician friends that we respect and hold dear from our own position as fans. The original line-up consisted of Tim "Ripper" Owens (Judas Priest), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), Jimmy Degrasso (Suicidal Tendencies/Megadeth) and David Ellefson (Megadeth), HAIL! performed their baptismal tour with six dates in Chile in January 2009 followed by a tour of Greece, Turkey and Austria which culminated in our headlining performance at the MaiFest in Vienna, Austria to 30,000+ rapid fans. September 2009, saw HAIL! tear up Scandinavia with newest member, drummer Roy Mayorga (Stone Sour). Playing an unheard of six cities in Norway (without Oslo!), the band also played 2 shows in Denmark, Finland and 2 in Sweden. As a display of metal brotherhood, support and unity, not to mention one-of-a-kind fan experiences, our tradition of special guests jamming with us was born here as King Ov Hell (Gorgoroth) in Bergen, Norway, Silenoz (Dimmu Borgir) in Jevnaker, Norway, Hank Sherman (Mercyful Fate) in Copenhagen, Marco Hietala (Nightwish/Tarot) in Helsinki and Drain STH, Mike Weed (King Diamond) and Tomas Haacke (Meshuggah) at the show's finale on Ripper's birthday in Stockholm, joined us on stage to create unique mayhemic memories. In November 2009, in an unprecedented move HAIL! became the first international metal band to ever play Beirut, Lebanon! We made a serious statement in support of our underlying principle of bringing metal to new parts of the globe and the global press reaction was huge for this groundbreaking event. Greeted with open metal arms and treated like royalty, the tremendous fan response solidified our mission statement. Paul Bostaph (Slayer, Testament, Exodus) made his 1st appearance on drums at this show and pulverized everything in sight. 2010 kicked off with our first US date in Los Angeles at the NAMM show supporting a benefit for Deftones bassist Chi Cheng who was injured in a horrific automobile accident. Phil Demmel (Machine Head) and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Avenge Sevenfold) joined the ranks for this special show. Two weeks later Andreas Kisser returned for two more select shows in New York city and the Boston area. Guest appearances by long-time friends Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth (Overkill), Chris Caffery (Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) and Frank Bello (Anthrax) highlighted the NY event. A six city tour of Turkey was scheduled for March of 2010 but due to David Ellefson's long overdue reunion with Megadeth we had to put those plans on hold. While saddened by David's departure from HAIL!, we found an exciting opportunity to expand and include even more friends into our brotherhood. Slipknot bassist Paul Gray was set to join HAIL! on the Eurasian Invasion tour with Paul announcing "I am so excited to be a part of this. These guys are all legends and it is an honor to be asked to participate in this extremely cool world that they continue to develop and create." Decimated by the devastating news of Paul's untimely passing two days before the bands departure to play the heralded Rock In Rio festival in Lisbon, Portugal, the band called upon Ellefson's Megadeth replacement, James Lomenzo (Megadeth, White Lion, Ozzy Osbourne, David Lee Roth and Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society) as a last second emergency cry for help that saved the tour. In a herculean effort, Lomenzo learned 20 songs in one day and single-handedly salvaged our performance at the festival of 80,000 people with Megadeth, Motorhead, Soulfly and Rammstein. The lineup of Ripper, Kisser, Bostaph and Lomenzo then completed the tour with five dates in Russia, one in Ukraine, three in Finland including the Sauna Open Air Festival with KISS (and a very special guest jam with Rob Cavestany and Mark Osequeda from Death Angel and Marco Hietala (Nightwish)), Estonia and the crowning finale of the Rock In Rio Festival in Madrid, Spain, headlined by Metallica to over 100,000 people! As a testament to metal unity, Spanish legends Baron Rojo and Motorhead drummer, Mikkey Dee, jammed with us and Andreas Kisser played two songs onstage with Motorhead. How could things get any better? Metallica invited us to watch their set from the stage! August 2010 saw a very different line-up for the G-Taranaki Festival in New Zealand playing with former Guns-n-Roses axeman, Slash. Joining Ripper for this one-off HAIL! incarnation was his reunion with Judas Priest drummer Scott Travis, guitar hero Tony MacAlpine and bassist Tony Franklin (The Firm/Blue Murder). Making this unique show even more special was the guest jams by Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions), Vinnie Moore (UFO) and Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson). We graciously returned to Istanbul Turkey for a one-off show with Mr. Big in October 2011. Sporting a completely different lineup we welcomed back HAIL! veterans Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) and James Lomenzo and initiated HAIL! newcomers Whitfield Crane (Ugly Kid Joe) and Glen Drover (Megadeth, Testament, King Diamond). Ripper, James, Paul and Glen finished 2011 with a complete tour of Siberia. After our initial taste of this undeveloped area last year we wanted to continue developing our presence in even more cities and we conquered. Despite the potential weather concerns throughout Siberia in December and the unconventional travel required we broke ground in new cities of Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Magnitogorsk, Ryazan, Barnaul, Krasnojarsk, while returning to Novosibirsk, Moscow and Ekaterinburg (Along with Tomsk and Omsk, this brings our total of Russian cities to a whopping eleven!). Despite the preconceived notions of Siberia as frozen wasteland, in reality it is a beautiful forest stretching thousands of miles dotted by historically and culturally interesting cities filled with ravenously hungry metal fans. The good fortune of experiencing these parts of the world by bringing music to the people serves as tremendous reward for our efforts and our lives have been forever changed because of it. 2012 kicked off with a long overdue South American run. We were scheduled to play the closing festival of Carnival in Brazil (with the new lineup of Andreas, Paul, James and Whit) but due to unfortunate local circumstances the much anticipated show was cancelled at the last minute. Saddened by the disappointing news (we had a ridiculously insane set list prepared) we took advantage of the unexpected time off and enjoyed the Brazilian beaches for a few days when Ripper returned to the ranks and we played the remaining three dates in Brazil including a cruise ship. Playing in Andreas's homeland was a really special event for all of us and provided the super-rad chance for him to jam with his teenage son onstage at two of the shows (The apple does not fall far from the tree because he tore it up just like his father!). Our South American mayhem continued with amazing shows in the new cities of Montevideo, Uruguay and Buenos Aires, Argentina. After a quick one-week turn around, we headed off to Oslo Norway with our newest HAIL! brother, guitarist Dave Linsk from Overkill, joining Bostaph, Ripper and Lomenzo. This tour featured four dates in Norway, one in Denmark, two in Sweden, two in Finland, our first trip to Romania (we planned a few days sightseeing around Transylvania and got to see Count Dracula's castle) and the finale in Beirut, Lebanon. We had a great run getting to see a lot of old friends and meeting a ton of new ones all along the way. We always have a blast together, everybody has their own hilarious sense of humor so we never stop laughing and our travels together are wonderful memories of good friends doing what we love. Thank you all for being an essential part of this unique experience called HAIL!

METAL ICONS UNITE TO PAY HOMAGE TO THE GENRE OF METAL!

HAIL! is a global touring machine composed of a tight knit brotherhood of Metal’s most highly respected contributors to the genre.

The past year of touring has cemented a bona-fide worldwide presence for HAIL! and created a wonderful story of fan appreciation, good will, fun and growth. As part of our growth we have had the great fortune of sharing the stage with an amazing array of very diversified and talented players who generously supported us - musician friends that we respect and hold dear from our own position as fans.

It is now time to lend one of our own back to history (his-story?) and we proudly announce David Ellefson's long overdue return to Megadeth. We are obviously saddened by his temporary absence from HAIL!, but an exciting opportunity to expand and include even more friends into our brotherhood has now been created and HAIL! continues to thrive.

In David's absence, Slipknot bassist Paul Gray, will be joining HAIL! on their upcoming tour of Europe and Asia. Gray announced "I am so excited to be a part of this. These guys are all legends and it is an honor to be asked to participate in this extremely cool world that they continue to develop and create."

Drummer Paul Bostaph (Testament/Slayer/Exodus) will also be rejoining HAIL! on this tour after performing with the band in Beirut, Lebanon last November. "HAIL! has been an amazing experience. Although I have spent my life travelling around the globe I have never played these cities and the opportunity to play with them again is awesome," said Bostaph.

Playing such festivals as the famed Rock In Rio Festival (with Megadeth and Motorhead) on Saturday, May 29, 2010, in Lisbon, Portugal, Rock In Rio in Madrid (with Metallica and Motorhead) on Monday June 14, 2010 and the Sauna Open Air Festival in Tampere, Finland on Saturday June 12, 2010 highlight the tour. "Rock In Rio is an enormous event that started in Brazil but has blossomed all over the world and we are immensely proud to be a part of it! We will get to see our brother David in Megadeth " announced HAIL!'s Brazilian guitarist, Andreas Kisser.

"We will continue our trademark tradition of playing in new territiories the world over, this tour will be our first shows in five new countries - Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Portugal and Spain. In addition, we look forward to being welcomed back to Finland where we will be playing two new cities (HAIL! previously played Helsinki in September, 2009). We are excited about introducing these countries to the HAIL! experience and we look forward to seeing everyone at the shows." exclaimed vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens.

Thank you to everyone for your support - we love you! HAIL!

Some HAIL! history:

Bassist David Ellefson’s roots go back to the seed. Heralded as one of the original forefathers of the entire genre, David continues to embrace his metal heritage and champions HAIL! as a special tribute to the bands who made this all happen in the first place. “When I started playing there were very few metal bands even in existence – Maiden, Priest, Sabbath, Saxon, Scorpions, UFO, Motorhead and not much more. This whole movement was created by a handful of super fans from around the globe who published their own fanzines and traded live tapes with each other. There was no internet or MTV back then – there was a united group of soldiers who lived thousands of miles apart and although we would never meet, we shared a common interest and through that single thread we created a tribal community that encompasses the entire world today.”

Andreas Kisser, the riff-roaring axeman of Brazilian heroes, Sepultura, agrees: “I grew up in Brazil so I had no direct access to the metal scenes that developed in England, Germany, New York and San Francisco. We rarely could get metal magazines or records so we depended on those influential people who circulated demos and bootlegs to expose us to so many of these early bands like Kreator, Destruction, Sodom, Possessed, Overkill, Mercyful Fate and Celtic Frost.”

Vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens (ex-Judas Priest, Beyond Fear, Yngwie Malmsteen) says “so much of my love for music comes from the excitement of those early years, it was something special and it will never happen again. I want to create that excitement in somebody and HAIL! has provided a unique opportunity to do that. In addition to playing songs from our own bands, we’re paying props to those bands that paved the way for all of us. These are the songs of our life and don’t forget, we’re fans too.”

HAIL! is about freedom. “A lot of times you get pigeon-holed into a place you can’t get out of but HAIL! has given us a really cool way to just have fun and jam on cool tunes for the Metal fans”, says Ellefson. Ripper continues “HAIL! is the best of everything because we don’t have any pressure – we can go wherever we want, whenever we want and play whatever songs we want. We are free to do whatever we want and that relief is very liberating. Freedom is fun!”
