The Lower Bottom Playaz open their 8th season at the Sister Thea Bowman Theater with a new play by troupe founder/director, Ayodele WordSlanger Nzinga, MA, MFA. The play, Mama at Twilight: Death by Love, is an intimate expose' of a black family dealing with AIDS . This leanly crafted chronicle of a family implosion promises to be one of the best talking points of the summer as WordSlanger pokes into firmly closed closets and suggest conversations we have neglected. The topic is timely, the language is breathtaking, the acting is stellar; this is The Lower Bottom Playaz and WordSlanger at their best and Community Theater at it's finest. The play boast an excellent cast co-starring Lower Bottom Playaz; Wolf Hawk Jaguar (Hairdoo), Doe Boy (Turf Starz), Tony Butler (Tybalt of Ebony and Johnny), Tatiana Green (Ebony of Ebony and Johnny), new to the troupe, Desiree Rogers (Siaamma's Clitoris Celebration) and Mr. Dominique Jones. The play is directed by WordSlanger this limited debut is produced by Prescott-Joseph Center for Community and WIP/BAP. Excerpts of the production are scheduled to be a part of the San Francisco Theater Festival in July. The production at the Sister Thea is the only opportunity to see the full version of Mama at Twilight: Death by Love in 2008. The debut production is a limited engagement of six performances only. Mama at Twilight opens July 11th, 2008 and closes July 20th. The Sister Thea Theater is located at 920 Peralta St, Oakland CA. Shows run Friday – Sunday, with Sunday curtains at 2 PM and all others at 8 PM. Theater and snack bar are open 15 minutes prior to curtain. The theater is outdoors, casual clothing and bug repellent recommended with jackets for evening
