   Half A Pigeon's Blurbs
About me:
Hello to you and thank you for your interest.
Welcome to the internet reference point for Half A Pigeon. I cant do html or any of that sort of thing so the zine is produced only in print form for your eyes, a pleasure for the tips. Half A Pigeon is the creative output of likeminded people, handmade and individually packaged.

Issue SIX is now among us, and Pigeon continues to grow with more great creative writing and imagery. But this project is open to everybody & I would love for this to continue to grow and develop into an ongoing community art project - with regular contributions of photographs, writings, illustrations, music reviews and stories.
I will gladly accept all contributions, tapes, cds, letters, gifts etc. I like getting things in the post.

I also put on launch parties for new issues of the zine along with other parties and events at the Rising Sun Art Centre in Reading. Possibly the best place in the world.

Issue Six's cover illustration was inspired and originally concieved by Helen Friel. The illustration was printed, drawn over, scanned, printed and re-drawn before printing onto grey paper stock, housing a 16 track CDR tucked away at the back. This issue features articles on cultivating the perfect beard, females in the DIY scene, and a poem about black sabbath.

Each copy costs Two English Pounds, unless you use Paypal which is a bit more, cos they like to take their cut.
If you would like a copy of the new issue, conceal £2, (I find that between two bits of cardboard works best) in an envelope/package along with yr address and post it to

Matthew Cargill/Half a Pigeon
139 Liverpool Road
Reading

& i'll post one out to you

i am of course open to zine or mixtape trades!

I have now set up a paypal account to save people the price of a stamp and the effort of posting a letter to me via the wonders of Royal Mail.
You can buy now using the button below. Ace!

Half A Pigeon Issue Six £2

Things people have said about the pigeon

"Issue number three of HALF A PIGEON is another long-awaited labour of love from Matthew and various friends based in Hampshire and the South-East and this one comes with a tasty compilation of many of the new bands that Pigeon has featured to date, including the noisy but great likes of Duracell and Red! Nice? Guy. The bulk of the issue is one or two-page contributions from creative souls, tugging Pigeon even further from its angular rock roots into art and non-musical comment. The design and illustrations are overall really awesome, as is the chunky cardboard cover. Luckily for a fanboy like me there are still nice bits about indie bands, such as the great interview with Liars tucked away at the very end, which would undoubtedly be emblazoned all over the front page of a lesser zine. Long live the Pigeon!" -DRAT! zine

"At last, a local zine! an incredibly mixed bag that doesn’t ease on the quality. stories, photos, drawings, an interview with liars and a fantastic accompanying cd-r which is worth a listen purely for the hikikomori broadcast track." - brass buttons zine distro

I like ‘zines. I like them so much me and my mate started one. You can do whatever you like with them. They’re like mayflys hatching and dying constantly (mine is still alive. It just needs an asthma inhaler every so often) and swarming all over the world. This one is a cracker – Halfapigeon is a proper one where you pay a pittance for it and you get a nice printed on recycled paper book of stuff with a 12-track CD mixtape stuck in the back. That really is value for money. - lecool.com

This is a highly individual and arty type zine, the first one I've seen since issue one, damn it! It came with an equally creative DIY CD and this is an interesting and occasionally bewildering read. Worth checking out if you like the usual or or perhaps you would like an outlet for some of your own creative work - issue punk zine

I also mangle tapes, process sounds and mess up yr favourite hits in my audio project 'Sly & The Family Drone'.
You can check out some audio samples and purchase my cassettes at www.myspace.com/slythefamilydrone
