Hip Hop is the essence for me. That's what the majority of life's soundtrack is. I can generally mix in most other forms of music except for country, that just doesn't speak to me. As for as personal taste, because you cant throw out genres and expect people to understand since there are multiple facets to each one, here is a short list of what I'm listening to lately: Tech N9ne, Within Temptation, Nas, Saul Williams, Brooklyn Academy, Jean Grae, Sublime, 311, Lacuna Coil, Sean Price, Atmosphere, Nirvana, John Forte, Wu-Tang, MF DOOM, Cage.. the list goes on and on, music is the cornerstone of me..
Movies
Movies.. what can I say.. its a mixed bag, i tend to like older movies better, nostalgia factor and all. I love foreign movies (mostly originating from Asia). Some good foreign movies ive been into lately have been Azumi, The Great Yokai War, Pyrokinesis, etc. I like a mindless action flick here and there to bridge the gaps. Thought provoking movies are good too. For example i love United States Of Leland, Manic, Imaginary Heroes, and others. I'm a Kevin Smith buff, so you can give me any of the View Askew movies as frequent rotation. Comedies, I tend to gravitate toward stoner movies like Harold & Kumar, Friday.. shit like that.
Television
I watch the hell out of anime.. I have countless series on dvd from my good friends at netflix and can be found watching it usually. When I'm in the mood for some live action, however much I resisted, my friends got me hooked into the Buffy-verse so that show and Angel are favorites. I love The Wire & Sopranos from HBO. Boondocks is great, as are most straightforward Adult Swim shows.
Books
Bookage.. haha, oh shit this is where the part of my paycheck that doesnt pay for gas, bills, and food goes to. I read a lot of manga. Currently I have Basilisk, Kuro Game, Genshiken, and a few others as regular reads. There was this one-off put out by Tokyopop called 12 Days by a korean creator, amazing stuff emotionally. Also I like comics, a mix of spandex and of real life/exaggerated life stuff. I read X-Men (since I was little), Y The Last Man, American Virgin, Exterminators, Strange Girl, etc. Last year there was an indy graphic novel put out called Never Meant To Last Stories Of Suburban Folklore. That one touched me. Being pagan, I have plenty of spellbooks. I'm a history buff too, so I read alot on ancient cultures, and civil rights era biographies. It keeps me grounded I would say.
About me: Basically, I'm Mike. I hang out with friends, slave away at work, do my best to hustle one way or another to keep from living check to check, and generally just exist. I cook, i have dreams of opening a restaurant, writing a book, etc etc which are all one or two steps away from reality if i get off my ass and actually commit to doing one thing instead of spreading myself thin. I live in Gary, I prefer it very much over Princeton and I won't be moving away any time soon being as I am now a homeowner here..
