.. ...... 2009 has seen Brisbane’s multi-talented Singer/Songwriter Nathan Lockwood preparing a delicious feast for his band Halfday’s upcoming 2nd album, “Giants on the Foreshore”. This is no half-baked Halfday! The band has put in some serious studio time and air miles jetting to ol’ Sydney town to work with Producer Daniel Denholm on what promises to be their best serving yet. Not only did Lockwood acquire the sparkle of one of our country’s leading producers for this highly anticipated 2nd album, he also offers us some ear candy in the form of some of Australia’s superior talents who pop up as special guests. These include The Whitlams guitarist Jak Housden, former Roxette keyboardist Hawkan Manderstedt and of course current band members Morgan Wilson (bass) and John Hamilton (drums). Recent additions Dave Gaylard and Phil Hagstrom complete the current lineup. It was certainly a leap from the home recording of Lockwood’s first album where he converted his car into a soundproof booth! The album release is sure to turn a few more heads! Lockwood seems the master of pop/melodic rock and this new album, with its rich production is sure to surprise and satisfy his fans. This second album follows the success of the 2004 album "Now We're Happy" that was spun like crazy on radio stations around Australia and the rest of the world. The greatest success was on Australian youth Network Triple J, where "I Feel Fine", "Turn Me On" and "You Make Me Want to Clean My Room" all garnered medium rotation airplay. The popularity of Halfday wasn't to be bound by the shores of Australia however. Halfday's music reached the ears of more people than ever, with radio listeners from Canada, US, UK, France, Ireland, Germany and Norway tuning in. The 2004 album “Now We’re Happy” attracted incredible reviews from around Australia: "Sweet, simple and instantly memorable" - [Kelsey Munro - Sydney Morning Herald], "Halfday have produced one of the city's finest indie-pop albums yet. Now We're Happy is ripe with the spirit of rock classics." [Joel Dullroy - The Brisbane Courier Mail], "Rarely has a Brisbane band been blessed with a singer and songwriter of this calibre … This is absurdly good pop music backed up with great performances" [Brett Collingwood - Rave Magazine], "A real sense of yesteryear ... unabashed, sweet pop like this is something of a rarity" [Nick Coppack - Time Off Magazine] …and even from the far reaches of America: “It's a gem! The first song (Turn Me On) blends the vocal skills of Robin Zander and Danny Wilde (The Rembrands) into pop anthem that is really hard to not sing along to and it only gets better from there. This is what our passion about finding lost gems in the landscape of power pop/melodic rock is all about. Bring them to you when they, otherwise, would be lost. Anyway, Halfday sound like Midnight Oil playing Crowded House. The perfect combination of Down Under and Kiwi-Pop, I guess you could say. Songs. They have them, too! Big Time Extremely Highly Recommended!” (www.notlame.com - 2007) The international success of Halfday has been thanks in part to a European promotional tour in August / September. Nathan visited Paris, London, Ireland and Norway. Among the highlights were Ireland, where he played three shows in Dublin and then ducked over to Cork for a performance at the Cork Folk Festival and Norway where he performed at Oslo's Øyafestival alongside luminaries such as Air, The Lemonheads and Mark Lanegan. In his abscence, "You Make Me Want to Clean my Room" was released to radio to huge acclaim, again making Triple J's "hitlist" on medium rotation. Not only that but the accompanying filmclip by Norwegian director Anja Øesterli got Halfday its best result yet with 6 weeks straight play in the prime time of ABC TV's 'Rage' program. So understandable on his return to Australia, Nathan was itching to perform with the full band again. Halfday set out for a three week Australian tour titled the "Brisvegan Invasion Tour" playing from Adelaide to Townsville and taking along for the ride local Brissie mates Denvar and Shifter. Thanks to the huge radio success of "You Make Me Want to Clean My Room", the tour gained the prestigious 'Official Support' of radio station Triple J and earned great reviews and publicity nationwide. If that ain’t enough history, our leading man, Nathan Lockwood adds to this the kind of experience most of us only dream about. Try throwing in a couple of years with the band “Pretty Violet Stain”, a huge success in its own right and supporting bands like FUEL, Magic Dirt, Spiderbait, Doves, Shihad and George! Turn the clock forward and mix in some Halfday supports including Alex Lloyd, The Whitlams and the Grates as well as playing at Livid in 2002 and you’ve got a pretty well rounded artist. So, whether you catch Halfday around Brizvegas, or somewhere along the East Coast in 08/09 you are guaranteed a rocking good performance with tunes you just can’t get out of your head. “Giants on the Foreshore” is available in stores and on iTunes through MGM.
