Half Past Four is a unique and innovative art rock band.
Crafting original, fresh soundscapes from their headquarters in
Toronto, Canada, Half Past Four offers exquisite musical novelty and
experimentation to true musical connoisseurs and rock-party goers
alike. Drawing its inspiration from unique heritage of King Crimson,
Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull and many other progressive, kraut, art and
math-rock bands, Half Past Four takes pride and pleasure in taking
progressive rock a little further and planting its seeds in the harsh
soil of contemporary popular culture.
The current version of the group exists since early 2005. Its debut
has been celebrated by an opening concert at the Opera House and
ensuing kaleidoscope of performances and projects thereafter. A
well-received demo recording of 2006, followed by scoring the Billy
Zane "Zomedy" horror movie "The Mad" and playing many cool venues with
lots of great new progressive bands resulted in recording their first
full album entitled "Rabbit in the Vestibule" which is currently being
released. The recording process took place in Toronto and spanned a
little over a year. The band recorded and produced the album
themselves, while relying on legendary Jono Grant and his Victory Drive
Studio for mixing and mastering.
Half Past Four's style is hard to describe as the group does not
restrict itself to following one specific genre. Free of mercantile
ambitions, musicians concern themselves with what they do best –
writing and performing a free spirited, never before played chord
structures and melodies. Experimental arrangement, fusion composition,
polyrhythmic structures and atonal melodies are not uncommon in Half
Past Four music. Going as far as constructing their own sound equipment
and musical instruments, Half Past Four sheds the traditionalist shell
and presents itself in its inimitable, distinctive and inspiring sound
which breathes positivism and freedom. Listen to it, and you will know
what I mean.
Wherein again was that, you quote on keyboards from the Badinerie that closes Bach's Suite no. 2 in B Minor, also like, e.g., Mike Oldfield? I forgot wherein too. Was it Amarok? Iggy, as the Indie Night approaches, please update the time of the band's performance, when you have an estimate of this time. I don't want to miss the performance for arriving too late, nor do I want to wait for it for very long for arriving too early. But since I had to miss the Vaughan show, so been waiting ever since, maybe I can also wait for long for arriving too early .
I thought you were taking a creative break from shows to focus on new song writing but I'm glad you came up with a PR instead. Who's Yana? I don't know her in person yet but it looks like I'm gonna prepare questions for an interview with who of you is available, guys. I have direct communication with most of you but we'll go through the usual procedure: I submit the questions, the editor reviews them, sends them to Yana, you guys respond and it eventually gets published. I may have the quesions available soon but please allow some time to complete this entire process, as it's the editor's birthday tomorrow and a submission deadline for some other staff soon.

I'm working on a review of the album "Uninvited Dreams" from the Silesian group Osada Vida and I was struck by a theme they use in their song "Lack of Dreams", compared to Costya's arrangements of traditional themes in "Spin the Girl" ("Uite-asha se-nvarte fata") and in "Salome" on the album. I once spoke to him about areas of circulation of such themes, since what's in "Salome" I also heard in arrangements of songs coming from an area of Romanian-Serbian interference. This time, I find what's in "Spin the Girl" closer to what's in this song "Lack of Dreams", and this, again, coming from a Silesian band. Let me see if I creep such ideas in my review and thereby mention Half Past Four there too . It's the same Eastern Europe, after all, anyway. That song plays on my page for now.
New vid's a smart song, like Rush gone to grad school with far better singing (I mean that in the best possible way). Funny you mention King Crimson-- the last holdout of my youth wasted on prog rock. Love that stuff. And some Tull and Yes... but I coulda' been a punk contendah! If you get a chance, check out "Asoka, the Loyal Voyeur," a songscape I just posted. Tell me if it is evocative or tawdry. I wanted a hint of eros but fear it glows full splat. It's on my page. Keep the prog torch proggin' !
