We are HALFWAY, and we play music that we enjoy
Take care.
" Like Springsteen, who believed that hope was a place you could drive
to, Dale believes in the myth of the highway and that if you drive long
enough, and far enough, there's a good chance you'll find it. Taking
their cue from Gram Parsons, The Byrds and The Band, Brisbane,
Australia's Halfway play the kind of roots rock that lasts.
Remember the River - Amplifier Magazine - USA May 2007
Halfway, Australia's premier alt country outfit, have, in their follow
up to the marvellous Farewell To The Fainthearted - a hard act to follow
- rekindled memories of Fables/Reckoning/Green REM. The band shows the
same freedom of spirit, subtle shades and infinite possibilities that
Athens' finest did in their young artistic heyday. To categorise
Remember The River is to miss the point, the album doesn't cross genres
it ignores them.
Net Rhythms (UK) January 30, 2007
10 Best Albums of 2006 - Noel Mengel - Brisbane's roots-rock scene is thriving
with bands such as Halfway, who add pedal steel, harmonica, banjo and
organ as contrast to their mix of country flavours and rock'n'roll
swagger. And listen up, Dean and the Fitzroy and Cheri Ann - haunting
tunes inspired by real-life tragedies - are two of the songs of the
year. - Halfway - Remember the River - The Courier Mail - Dec 2007
Its not always the case but Remember the River builds on the promise
Halfway showed with its debut release Farewell to the Fainthearted.
Drawing on collective experiences it all adds to the albums sense of
reality. Halfway don't sit comfortably in either rock or country,
instead it bestrides both, using the best of each.
Maverick Magazine (UK) Dec 2006
‘Remember The River’ is a late contender for the upper echelons of those ‘Best of 2006’ lists and suggests that the allegedly ‘difficult’ third album may well be no hurdle at all for the eminently talented Halfway.
Whisperin' & Hollerin (UK) Nov 2006 - Tim Peacock 9/10
Those who discovered Halfway with ‘Farewell To The Fainthearted’ will find plenty more of the same to love here. For those who have yet to discover the new uncrowned kings of alt-country, start here and find out what you have been missing.
Penny Black Music (UK) Malcolm Carter Oct 2006
There are a glut of bands around the globe treading the ‘alt-country’ path at the moment with mixed results, but with Remember The River, Halfway have proved themselves beyond doubt to be world-class proponents of the burgeoning genre. Big things await.
Time Off - Steve Bell - Album of the week 4.5 out of 5 - Oct 2006
"...wheezing harmonicas, Stonsey grit and Gram Parsons' melody"
Farewell to the Fainthearted :: The Daily Mirror (UK) July 29, 2005
