| About Kyle Cobalt |
It began as a weekend gig in the local small town bar and grill. Now- 5 years later Kyle Cobalt rocks the stage with some of the world's top musicians. After breaking from his internationally touring group Halfway Down in May 2009, Cobalt went back to his roots as a solo artist.
Kyle has gained a reputation over the past few years as a "down home, in-your-face" artist. Known for his smooth and catchy melodies; emitting from his past years spent living in Motown, his uniquely scratched voice roughed up from years of smoke and whiskey, and his southern-boy attitude derived from earning respect in a cut-throat business, Cobalt is one of few musicians with the ability to capture an emotion in a picture-perfect fashion and replay those feelings anytime he wants to through his music.
As a writer for one of the "Big 4" record labels, Kyle expanded his influences far beyond his rock roots. "I've never been the guy to say 'today I'm writing a country song...'" Cobalt explained in a private interview. "I don't believe in genres. Once you start to label yourself and your music you lose the ability to tell a story how it should be- which is what music is about. I listen to everything and that's where my song ideas come from, so to limit myself by saying I'm a rock artist or a country singer would do nothing but close a door I'd rather leave open. I write about life, and however people think it sounds; that's what it is."
Kyle has already began working on his first full length solo album since "White Lies" was released in 2004. The new album, rumored to be named "Million Dollar Mannequin" will be released by Lucky Follower Records, an upcoming indie label based in Detroit. It is only the second album recorded by Cobalt that has not been promoted or endorsed by a major commercial label.
"For the new album I decided to go back to being an independent artist. I had to go home to the tiny town I grew up in for some family issues, and while there I realized that people expect me to be some kind of superhero or music prodigy. That's not me. This album's all about the people I know and grew up with, the girls I used to love, and the people who pissed me off in this town. It's my way of saying 'I won't change who I am to sell records'. Releasing it on a major label would ruin the meaning behind every word on the CD."
Cobalt has not released information regarding a 2009-10 tour as of yet.
