All'epoca godette di ampia fama anche se non ripagò i costi di produzione. In questo film compare come co-sceneggiatore e aiuto-regista il futuro maestro del cinema surrealista Luis Buñuel. Trama: Un amico va a trovare Roderick Usher che vive nella malinconica magione con la moglie Madeline. Quest'ultima deperisce man mano che Roderick la ritrae, finché muore e viene sepolta in una cripta. Ma il suo decesso è solo apparente...
