In spring of 2004 guitarist Tankred Bergmeister, drummer Martin Fröwis and singer Florian Gerer started a sideproject called Scavenger, whose emphazis was directed at the speedy thrashmetal of the 1980s. In search of new band members they found in Benjamin Märk a dedicated bass-player who was rooted in blackmetal.
In may of 2004 singer Werner Berchtold joined Scavenger by chance. His characteristic voice and the distinct changes between high screams and deep growls changed the sound substantially. The band decided to perform with two singers from now on and to rename in HAL.
A change in style to modern, melodic death/thrashmetal was the consequence.
In late 2004 the first LP was released in self production (HAL S/T) shortly after followed the EP A New Dawn (2005).
In june of the very year, Florian Gerer and Benjamin Märk left the band due to stylistic differences. Furthermore singer Werner Berchtold took over the whole singing part and assumed frontman of the band. Backup for Benjamin Märk was found in the Omission bass-player Andreas Danler (aka Gandi). Despite the backlash due to the reorganization of the band, the third EP No More Distance (2005) was released the same year.
After a short creative intermission and the unsuccesful search of a second guuitarist, HAL decided however to start with the production of the fourth album in late 2006. The EP Feardom which was released in early 2007, earned positive critique and resumed in a ten day tour through Austria and Germany. In march of 2008 guitar-player Phillip Mock joined the band (former A Reason to Care) to reinforce the guitar fraction. His virtuosic guitar soli were a substantial enrichment for the sound of HAL. Therefore the band decided to write new songs for several voice guitar playing. The sound became more sophisticated and the songwriting more complex.
Many concerts later, in june of 2009, the up to this date most elaborated EP Breed of Lilith was produced with the synonym Halcyon as Lilith.
HAL play a mixture of fast, modern Trash/Deathmetal along with progressive elements. Apart from that several musical currents play a significant role. The bands main focus lies, despite all aggression on melodic parts and catchy melodies. HAL have already shared the stage with big names of the scene such as: Pungent Stench, Metal Church, Neaera, The Black Dahlia Murder, Darkest Hour, The Wage of Sin, etc. The current set-up is:

It also includes a new version of "Zombie Factory" with some new voice takes, new mix and mastering, and "Roda o Pe", a tune extracted from "V.S.F.", Eletrika's previous album.
