HALON are an instrumental three or four piece, whose sound is built on a foundation of drums, bass, guitar, and synthesizers. The group was formed out of a desire to create new sounds, based on composition, experimentation and improvisation.
Halon began as a duo in late 1999, consisting of Matthew Taplinger and Rob LeVally. In 2000 Jed Robertson was added to the lineup on bass and synth. After performing for about a year and a half as a trio, Don Behm began playing synths and drums full time.
Since the consolidation of the line-up in early 2001, Halon has recorded one full-length album - Assault on Tower 61 - released by Silent North Records. Halon has also recorded two full-length demo albums - The Day Begins Like Any Other (Demos Vol. 1) and Beyond the Golden Grave (Demos Vol. 2). Beyond the Golden Grave is a compilation of studio and live tracks that sketch out the concepts for the forthcoming LP.
Halon began playing live in 2001. That same year the band was invited to play the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, where Halon was part of a lineup that included Prefuse 73, Autechre and Tortoise. Since 2001, Halon has shared the stage with Sonic Boom and Spectrum, Hood, Cerberus Shoal, Kinski, Isotope 217, HIM, Explosions in the Sky, Paik, Sonna, Cul de Sac, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Tristeza to name a few.
Over the years, Halon has earned a reputation as a formidable and versatile live act. Audience members can expect to hear anything from pulsating electronic rock to heavy psyche to cinematic soundscapes.
