Exhibitions: Feature works from our Permanent collections and shows on loan. Our Permanent collections includes works by well known local, national and international artists of African descent such as Robert Duncanson, William Taylor, Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Papa Ibra Taal, El Loko, Radcliffe Bailey, Leroy Clarke, and Lynn Marshall.
The Resource Center: is a special library of Hard to find information on art and artists. The scope of its holding includes vertical files on artists, slides, videos, books, museum and gallery catalogues and directories. This information is collected and maintained for use by scholars and the public by appointment only.
Educational Programs are designed to give context to the exhibitions and expand our cultural understanding. Symposia, artist talks, lectures and workshops are geared to educate the public about issues and contributions of artists to world culture.
Hammonds House Museum and Resource Center of American Art is the only public museum in Atlanta dedicated exclusively to the collection, exhibition and study of fine arts of the African Diaspora and Africa. In it's 19th Century Eastlake Victorian Facility, the museum offers visitors the opportunity to gain a wider understanding of the contributions of diverse artists of African Descent.
Hammonds House Museum was founded in 1988 on the legacy of the late Dr.Otis Thrash Hammonds, a prominent Atlanta physician and avid arts patron. Upon his death in 1985, Dr. Hammonds' extensive art collection, along with his Victorian home were purchased by the Fulton County Board of Commisioners, to provide a cultural facility in Atlanta's historic West End district.

The Mission of Hammonds House is to collect, preserve, research, document, and interpret the visual art contributions of peoples of African Decent by collecting and exhibiting art for the education, enrichment, and enjoyment of peoples of a board and diverse public.
Special events such as Jazz concerts, garden parties and Kwanzaa Celebrations are held at special times of the year. There are several workshops held as well as Exhibitons throughout the year.Hammonds House Museum has (2) major annual Fundraisers a year: The Silent Art Auction and The Phantom of the Art World Gala.
