What's It All About
Well its now 2009 and Hamswell Festival is back for a 5th year of shenanigans in the Croft and We’ve searched further and wider this year and very much looking forward to bringing to you a fine selection of emerging talent, circuit regulars and undiscovered songsters to entertain you accross the 3 days.
Let us introduce you to just a few of them:
Pauline Taylor
Back by popular demand is the lovely Pauline Taylor with her special blend of ‘folking soul’ and ‘urban campfire blues’. Pauline first came onto the scene as part of the UK dance act Faithless, and since then has released three solo albums and accumulated a long list of collaborations that includes the likes of Dido and Paolo Nutini. She knows how to work an audience, and regularly thrills the crowds at London’s more intimate venues. We’re certainly looking forward to another captivating dose!
Attention Thieves
Aa powerful alternative pop punk four piece currently making a big impact on the gig scene, They’ve got a new E.P. in the pipline and always smash it live. If you haven’t caught them on stage yet, it’s about time you did! This is what substock have to say about them:
“Indie rock played with a tightness normally only accomplished by a nun's vagina, Attention Thieves are one of the most promising new sounds of the current music scene. It's catchy and danceable, what else do you need from a band nowadays?”
Jo Schaefer
Mornings at Hamswell are all about taking it easy: we know how best to follow on from the night before. A little mellow music and some space to drift, let things happen in their own time. Amongst others this year we have Jo Schafer to help you through the delicate hours. He describes his music as Emotion, Synth, Experience, Life - Music . Trust us, it’s exactly what you need as you put yourself back together again after hard nights fetivaling.
Karma Deva
KarmaDeva have exploded onto the UK scene, their powerful stage presence captivating audiences, drawing them into the excitement and dark poetic melancholy of their songs. This is a band with real depth and resonance, whose vivid and lyrical imagery of love, longing and redemption seduce your consciousness, hook you in, and take up residence.
Eat More Cake
Eat More Cake are Matt “Pearno” Pearn, Andy “Gamblehands” Briggs and their crack team of vocalists, MCs and musicians. Their style incorporates a wide variety of ideas and is recognisable by the lush chord progressions, huge beats, and thought-provoking lyrics. They have a string of successful remixes to their name and are moments away from the release of their second album. But at the end of the day, it’s playing live that brings the biggest rewards, and their hugely energetic live show has something for everyone. If music be the food of love... Eat More Cake!
Scrase
Quite possibly the most exciting thing to be happening in electronica since Aphex discovered a synthesiser. Possessing an unnatural flair for granite riddims and twisted originality, everything between techno and dubstep will be fried up in his sonic wok of a live set.
On the Side
Of course it’s not just about music and arts. There is also Cider and Ale! The bar will once again be stocked with quality traditional ales from the Box Steam Brewery and a selection of proper ciders from the West Country; if that’s not your bag, cold lagers and spirits are also available.
The infamous Wharton BBQ will be back serving you fine lamb based delicacies direct from Hamswell Farm itself. Then there’s the Bath Organics burger van; more local produce of a superior quality. Plus a host of other carefully selected stalls to keep you going over the weekend.
