BIO:
It’s been a healthy few years since three guys decided to take on an infamous university landmark and use it as a moniker for their rock ‘n’ roll future.
Since that time, Hancock Basement have played with a ridiculous number of on-the-pulse international and national acts (including The Presets, The Sleepy Jackson, Datarock, Digitalism and Cut Off Your Hands), driven their orange-kinda-yellow van from state to state, ditched the make-up and silly costumes, and even gained a bass-player on the way.
They decided to take a deep breath in 2008 to get that oft-forgotten detail of songcrafting in check, decamping to Bigjesusburger studios in Sydney to record with Jorden Brebach and Berkfinger. It seems to have done the trick, having won Richard Kingsmill’s approval when they took out triple j’s Trackside Unearthed competition with ‘Hey Kids’, and provided a taste of what’s to come for 2009. Bar-room bawdyness, deep etched love songs, and the ever-present pop sensibility are all part of this exhalation.
Stay tuned for more tunes from the boys stint at bigjesusburger!
Hancock Basement has played festivals including Stonefest and Trackside, and supported artists including: THE PRESETS, THE SLEEPY JACKSON, OPERATOR PLEASE, DATAROCK, CUT OFF YOUR HANDS, THE SCARE, DIGITALISM, BLUEJUICE, YOUTH GROUP, JOHN STEEL SINGERS, YOUNG & RESTLESS, THE BASICS, SOFT TIGERS and many more
