Bio
Hand of Grief are a 5 piece metal band, born and inbred in the murky depths of South Yorkshire. Formed in mid-2006, they draw on a wide variety of influences from thrash, hardcore, death metal, black metal, doom and sludge, right through to classic rock and blues. They combine these influences to create a sonic sledgehammer that attacks the listener with a monsterous blast, forcing the nodding of heads of all who dare face up to this dark Northern beast... Several early local shows were arranged and well received, and the DIY demo "Amalgamation" released to further positive reception. Having settled on a stable line-up with Rob Pritchard joining on guitar, forming the band's backbone of riffery, in 2008 and 2009 Hand of Grief embarked on an intense and prolonged period of activity in an attempt to reach even more people and places. A 2nd DIY recording, the 3-track "Item 9", was released - the band's work ethic and dense, no-bullshit sound was propelling them through the underground scene, making them friends throughout the UK... Despite the line-up changes in the early years, the momentum and diversity in their material resulted in "Item 9" displaying an evolution in songwriting capabilities, and diversity threaded through their merciless style... In Spring 2009, bassist Gaz Braisby sadly left the band, and replacement was quickly found in Greg Turner, guitarist of local band Hiram. More exciting new material was written and recorded (see tracks), again harnessing their DIY ethic, and Hand Of Grief became a yet finer example of a heavy band than ever, eschewing musical trends, denying falseness, being the blunt force of a beast that it is... In July 2010, band drummer and promotional stalwart Luke Ager decided to take his leave in order to concentrate on his other passion of MMA fighting, realising that he could no longer commit the time to Hand Of Grief that it required. Ager joins the ranks of fallen comrades, and will be missed, but Hand Of Grief ploughs forth. And so we come to the present day... Hand of Grief searches for their new drummer as they continue to develop their latest material. As brutal as ever... Till next time, then..... ..Fuck Off Weak Riffs.... Hand Of Grief 2010 .. ..!!!
