Innerhalb kürzester Zeit spielte sich das Gitarrenduo „Hands On Strings“ in die internationale Spitzenklasse. Dabei prägten die beiden Musiker mit ihrer Virtuosität und Dynamik, sowie mit einem außergewöhnlichen Klangreichtum, gleichsam eine eigene Definition von Gitarrenmusik.
STEPHAN BORMANN (Gitarrist der "Cristin Claas Acoustic Band", bekannt auch durch seine Zusammenarbeit mit Volker Schlott oder Nils Landgren) und THOMAS FELLOW (die andere Hälfte von Europas Top-Duo „Friend ..n Fellow“) lassen mit ihrer Musik ein Gipfeltreffen der besonderen Art erleben:
Ein virtuoser Jazz-Gitarrist und eine akustische „one-man-band“ begegnen sich in der Mitte ihrer musikalischen Welten. Worldmusic, Jazz und europäische Konzertmusik sind nur einige der Elemente, welche sich in der Musik von „Hands On Strings“ zu einer begeisternden Klangwelt verbinden.
Meisterhaft zelebrieren sie sowohl ihre einzigartigen Adaptionen von Klassikern wie „Libertango“, als auch ihre eigene Musik („9 pm“ – mit dem Gellert-Kunstpreis prämiert).
Ihre aktuelle CD „Offroad“ wurde in der Fachpresse euphorisch gefeiert und das Duo erhielt Einladungen zu renommierten Festivals in Europa und den USA.

THOMAS FELLOW won several prizes at international competitions for classical guitar and played concerts in India, South America and the USA. With his duo FRIEND 'N FELLOW he played more than 1000 shows in China, the USA and all over Europe and shared the stage with legends like Luther Allison, Al Jarreau and Ray Charles. Now FNF is one of the most successful European projects in the junction of Jazz, Blues and Soul.
Prof. Thomas Fellow is the head of the education "ACOUSTIC GUITAR (concert music/worldmusic/jazz) at the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" in Dresden (Germany) and "WORLDMUSIC" at the Hochschule für Musik Weimar and lead masterclasses at different conservatories and festivals in Europe and the USA. Stephan Bormann zählt zu den viels(a)itigsten deutschen Gitarristen. Mit seinen Projekten, dem Cristin Claas Trio, Hands On Strings oder seiner Band mit Volker Schlott bestreitet er ca. 120 Konzerte im Jahr! Als Gitarrist von Cristin Claas ist er SONY BMG Recording Artist. Das Trio gilt als eine der großen Neuentdeckungen der Szene und tourt durch verschiedene Länder Europas. Er ist nicht nur erfolgreicher Musiker sondern auch Komponist mit Veröffentlichungen im AMA-Verlag. Als Sideman hat er mit diversen Künstlern gearbeitet: Nils Landgren, Mel Gaynor, Martin Engelien, Klazz Brothers, Leipzig Big Band, Günther Fischer u.v.a. Von 1989 – 2006 arbeitete er als Gitarrendozent an der Universität Magdeburg, von 1998-1999 an der Musikhochschule Leipzig. Er leitet seit 1994 eine Hauptfachklasse an der Hochschule für Musik in Dresden. HANDS ON STRINGS – MORE THAN TWO GUITARS!
In the autumn of 2009, I was very fortunate to be among an enraptured audience attending Peter Finger's fêted "Open Strings Guitar Festival" in Osnabrück, Germany. Although headed by such stellar talent as Clive Carroll, Muriel Anderson and Franco Morone, the German acoustic guitar duo "Hands on Strings" easily outshone every other performer there, hands down. Thomas Fellow and Stephan Bormann are individually incredible players, but the telepathy and synergy they've found as a duo energizes their work to an exponential degree. A fusion of jazz and classical, their music is a sonic personification of the crosspollination of the two players' strengths, especially Fellow on classical nylon-string and Bormann on acoustic and electric jazz guitar. Although acoustic jazz guitar duos such as Larry Coryell & Philip Catherine, Biréli Lagrène & Sylvain Luc, and Ralph Towner & John Abercrombie long ago set the bar high in this arena, Hands on Strings with their new release "Loco" have set it a little higher -- into the stratosphere. "Chewbacca" is a spirited anthem which seems to pay unapologetic homage to freedom and joy... contagiously uplifting via expert control over dynamics, insistent rhythms, modulations and melody. "Galileo" shows off another forté of this duo: total facility with unusual meters, nearly tribal, always riveting. There are shades of Ralph Towners' landmark recording "Solstice" on "Moondog," where Bormann coaxes his 12-string on a near-spiritual odyssey. The CD is a compilation of ten original compositions by Fellow and Bormann, with two exceptions. The duo engages in a playful repartee with Egberto Gismonti's "Karate." On Keith Jarrett's "Memories of Tomorrow" (also known as Part II C of "The Köln Concert") they mine musical gold. By staying true to Jarrett's emphasis on unadorned but nuanced melody initially, the tune is elegant in its simplicity. In the last seconds, however, Fellow caps it off with a mesmerizing and lightning-fast solo recapitulation of the theme which will truly astonish you. Although a CD copy of "Loco" may be difficult to find in North America, it will be worth your while to hunt this one down from a European source. © Alan Fark - minor7th - usa ..
