Don't call their tentacles tentacles- they're arms. And some octopuses can detach their arms at will, like lizards can with legs, and the loose arm will writhe around to freak out its predator. Imagine it! How can evolution explain that one eh? How did they go from having fully attached arms to detachable ones? Even over a long period of time I struggle to understand! I imagine you wouldn't like to come across an annoyed octopus in a dark, water-filled alley after hearing that nugget of information.
