Born into a music family (her father a talented guitarist, arranger and music teacher and her mother a classical pianist and recorder player) Hannah May was heavily influenced by many different genres of music from a early age.
At the age of thirteen her father bought her a keyboard which lead her to realise she had a talent from writing lyrics and melodies.
Throughout her life she was involved with many Choirs including Australian Rosny Children's Choir, ABC Giving Tree Choir (directed by Christopher Waterhouse and Carey Denholm), Honour Choir/Youth Choir(Festival of Voices Directed by Mark O'Leary), Southern Conservatorium Gospel Choir (directed by Andrew Legg) and Rosny College Vocal Ensemble.(directed by Suze Ellis and Gina Bashford).
In 2004 her song "Echo in the Rain " got into the second round in the adult section of National Australian Songwriting Competition. "Break this Silence" a love ballad won her a place in the Songsmith Competition where she performed at the Theatre Royal "It's You I love" her first Jazz song. She also won a two work shop with Australian Idol Bobby Fynn, Lincoln Le Fevre, Dean Stevenson and Unearthed Winner Beatrix Bae Bouwman and her song was recorded by Stewart Long (Red Planet Recording Studio Tasmania).
In 2007-08 Hannah May's music took a "jazz" turn. Songs such as It's You I love, Spinning World and Summer Days were all influenced by Norah Jones and Corrine Bailey Rae and Ella Fitzgerald.
At the start of 2009 Hannah May joined Adam H, and they are both working on Hannah's favourite music- Folk with a Celtic flavour. Soon Hannah & Adam will be hitting the streets of Salamanca to bring you some great folk covers as well as some great originals!!
