Hanna Paulsberg is a young saxophonist with a background in jazz studies in Trondheim and a name to note for the future. She has made her mark at a young age with bands like Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Nancy Wilson Tribute Band, Dance of the Flight Attendant and Define Quiet, and has played with musicians such as Georg Riedel, Håkon Mjåset Johansen, Henning Sommerro, Vigleik Storaas and Elin Rosseland. Hanna Paulsberg Concept was formed in spring 2010 strongly influenced by Wayne Shorter Quartet's energetic and melodic interplay. Eventually the band developed its own expression through Paulsbergs original compositions where playful interaction and strong melodies take center stage. The quartet consists of four young musicians from different places in Scandinavia, which found together in jazz studies in Trondheim through a common passion for beautiful melodies, open improvisations in set forms and "cookin '" Jazz. In September 2011 Hanna Paulsberg Concept won the prestigious competition Young Nordic Jazz Comets such as Motif, PELbO and In the Country has won before. The competition took place at the jazz club Fasching in Stockholm, and the quartet competed against talented band from Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and the Faroe Islands. The jury's statement about the quartet were: "The jury decided they had the strongest group interplay. They communicated well and had a jazzspirit that was well appreciated by the jury. They were especially mesmerized by Oscar Gronberg on piano and the compositor Hanna Paulsberg on saxophone."
