  • Bio

Hannis Brown's debut album, "Oh Ah Ee," was released April 6th, 2010. His next album, "Severe Insomnia," will be available this fall via venerable UK label Lumberton Trading Company. Mixing controlled instrumental chaos with sedate vocal harmonies, clattering found sounds, and explosions of free jazz, the music has been compared to Battles, Talking Heads, Grizzly Bear, and the late Arthur Russell. Mingus, Monk, Coltrane, Bartok, the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkle, Sigur Ros, Elliott Smith, Radiohead, DJ Shadow, Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Vandermark 5, Isotope 217, Tortoise...really anything that pushes the edges of the envelope and elicits emotional response. Lately, I've rediscovered Beck's "Odelay," which is genius. And Talking Heads, The Pixies, Brad Meldeau, Ozomatle, Bill Frizell, Thievery Corporation...and so on. Penderecki, Scelsi, Ligeti. Video for "Oh Ah Ee:" .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
