There are 10,000 homeless youth in Iowa, a problem that often goes unnoticed because of a simple lack of awareness.
BECOME AWARE!
A collection of stories entitled From A Growing Community, Iowa's Homeless Youth was released recently to shed light on a great need which is not being met.
"There is a certain embarrassment about being a storyteller in these times when stories are considered not quite as satisfying as statements and statements not quite as satisfying as statistics; but in the long run, a people is known, not by statements or statistics, but by the stories it tells."
- Flannery O'Connor
Hanwell were formed in the fall of 2007 by guitarist Austin Dunn, drummer Nathaniel Hill, bassist Natalie Heggen, and singer/songwriter James Petersen. The lineup was later revised to include bassist Ryan Hays and cellist/keyboardist Abigail Smith. Hanwell have also been graced by collaborations with Alex Garland, Rebecca Marion, Conrad Bascom, Erin Teter, and Easton Gruber.
Influenced by folk, roots music, and pop, as well as authors such as Walker Percy and GK Chesterton - from whose writings the band took their name - Hanwell self-released a 5-track EP, All My Ups Are Downs, in January 2008, followed by an 11-track LP, entitled Verse And Refrain, in November 2008. They are currently working on a new record entitled Love In Ones And Zeroes and playing venues around the midwest.
Hanwell have been blessed to play with Augustana, The Envy Corps, Lymbyc Systym, and Radio Moscow, among many others. Hanwell have also played at the 80/35 Music Festival in Des Moines and the Nebraska Pop Festival in Omaha.

Well done on making eighty thirty five. We would be very much interested in playing with you guys again. We we're wondering whether or not you'd be interested in another VFW show. Also, we'd love to come play in Des Moines with you guys sometime. Perhaps we could work something out? Lastly I still have one of your binders of music if you'd like that back feel free to get a hold of Matt I at any time. Hope to get the chance to jam with you guys again.
Thanks! Yeah, once the new record is actually released we will definitely be looking to play a lot more shows to share it with people, so we'll have to hook it up.
I was unable to read the derogatory comment made about you guys from some "supporter" of us because I was studying for a final in the time that it was both posted and deleted but I wanted to say that we in no way want this sort of thing to take place. You dudes have a great thing going and I have been more than excited to even be in the top five with you guys thus far. Hopefully the thoughtless and quite frankly, worthless comments of another doesn't change your perception of us or anyone in the band! If you want to continue the conversation I would be more than willing and would, in fact, encourage it.
You guys sounded great on friday, all the local bands need to start doing stuff like that cause other than the bricks and the mews there are not that many perfroming times in the winter months. But congrats. The new stuff blew my socks off. Good job.
