Hello! We are Happy Birthday Secret Weapon, three men from across the Americas now all living in Seattle. Long time collaborators Chris and Brian formed the band after the dissolution of their previous outfit Seahorse. They rocked it as a two piece for several months before Isaac joined the band and our sound was complete. We navigate through musical styles as the whim strikes us, landing often on Rock, with a progressive approach to rhythm and melody. Our goal is to have no goal, to make music that fits no category, to create our own sound and to perform it well. Our influences are broad and varied, encapsulated briefly as a mash-up of early King Crimson, Neil Young, Sonic Youth, and Miles Davis circa Bitches Brew. We endeavor to let a song breathe and flow rather than lock into the robotic metronome of auto-tuned blandness. Since early 2009, Happy Birthday Secret Weapon has been quite active, playing all around Seattle and going on two tours. We released our debut CD "Ground Floor Coming Up", showcasing our broad array of styles. The songs Tie le Null and Television Child were featured on the compilations Beep Repaired Family Tree vol. 2 and Ball of Wax Audio Quarterly vol. 17, respectively. A west coast tour is booked for September and we are headed back into the studio this fall. If you want to hear something a little different, please come join us at our next show. We'd love to see you there.
".....Cafe Coda saw a tight-knit performance from Happy Birthday Secret Weapon, a Seattle band with seamless transitions and complex breakdowns.
Drummer Chris Williams held the band’s progressive rock sound together with high-powered fills that left people shaking their heads trying to comprehend it. Bassist Isaac Person bunny-hopped around the stage while his afro bounced to the beat and Brian Baillie’s voice ranged harsh to soft in concert with his guitar."-- The Orion
".....Drawing from a diverse group of influences such as David Bowie, Motorhead and Neil Young, Happy Birthday Secret Weapon sounds like a new-age, super-aggressive Sonic Youth. Straight out of Seattle, this trio definitely marches to the beat of a different drummer. Unrestrained by rules and regulations that can stifle some bands, there seems to be no boundaries for their sonic experimentation. Their free-flowing music is a breath of fresh air that can be taken in on their debut record, “Ground Floor Coming Up.”-- sanjose.com
