Pixies, Sonic Youth, Velvet Underground, Wedding Present, Birthday Party, Joy Division – these and many other names sparked the desire of few schoolmates to be a band as it always happens when you are young and enthusiastic. That was an ordinary school band with intentions to become as cool as abovementioned ones. But two years later just after graduation the school, only one unserious man left.
It’s 1993 when the name of BLABBA comes to mind of Dmytro Ostroushko the same unserious self-confident young enthusiastic man. The only problem is there are no musicians in small town in the suburb of Kyiv to play together with.
The solution is to educate new ones like Dmytro’s younger brother Volodymyr. So, the new member’s only 13 years old, no any musical education, his task is to make noise, a single advantage is the electric guitar gifted by their father who’s just quitted playing music cause he’s fed up with it.
As to other musicians – they are borrowed from other local bands until the moment when in1995 new drummer Olexandr Yermolovich and bass-man Andriy Matseruk join the band.
Life‘s not a simple thing, new changes come in 1996 – Dmytro’s fella from the University Stas Riabokin becomes a new bass- player who has no skills of playing the guitar but very strong desire to play in the band.
Already in 1997 they are invited by French friends to the region of Burgundy with concerts. During that time they make their first demo record in Denis Gourguechons studio.
The next important event was the life album recorded during the life session at radio “Stolytsia” in Kiev and released by Moon records label.
BLABBA performed in English and French, and later songs in Ukrainian appeared. That was the very Ukrainian repertoire that gave base for changing the name in favour of
SCHASTIA
(means HAPPINESS)
7 years after
SCHASTIA
is trying to recreate BLABBA as a site/studio project for personal selfish satisfaction.
