The Story of Happy to Be.
Three friends were playing a game. ‘If you could be anyone you wanted to be,’ asked Una, ‘who would you chose to be?’
Sean thought about it for a long, long time and then said, ‘Me. No one but me’
Aidan, who’d nodded off, woke with a start and said, ‘Me too’
Una said, ‘That’s funny, I was going to say that I’m happy to be no one but me.’
After a game of snakes and ladders and two games of ludo, one of them – and they’ve all forgotten who – said, ‘Why don’t we make a song about it?’
‘Snakes and ladders?” asked the other two in unison.
‘No silly, happy to be’. And so they did.
That’s sometimes how songs happen.

On December 23, 2009 Maui Pineapple Company will shut down after nearly 100 years of plantation living. A sad holiday season for so many plantation families.
Thousands of acres of pineapple fields will become more hotels, roads and cars.
I wrote a song called "Aloha Maui Pine" dedicated to generations of displaced Maui families now dealing with the closure.
