On a mission to make the world feel their thoughts, the Hardheadz was founded in July 2002, by members: Mike Allen, Jason Motoshige, Stephen Demby and Jeremy Demby. The band blends hip-hop, jazz, blues and rock in a live lyric, guitar, drums and keyboard format, exhibiting a range of electric sonic grooves. The vision of the Hardheadz is to deliver live original compositions to a hip-hop era that is based on samples, drum machines, and loops. With various geographical influences, Maryland is where they call home, and plan to expose home to the world.
The Hardheadz new album entitled, Addicted, is their first full length album, and was released April 16, 2004, on Marylands independent label Outta Control Entertainment. Addicted contains fifteen original songs that range in topic and sound. The album is personal expression of the bands thoughts and how they view current issues, from love, money, and drugs to the state of the music and the American communities. It can be thought of as a continuation of their demo release, Its Ours, released in the fall of 2002. In addition to completing the album, Hardheadz have been performing shows at colleges and music venues along the east coast from Boston to Washington D.C., with local and reputable industry artists. These artist include J-Live, Talib Kweli, N.E.R.D and the Clipse. To view a current list of shows, check out the bands website at www.hardheadzband.com.
This group of musicians, producers and writers want to present themselves to a wide market so that they can receive major distribution for their future releases. Each band member contributes to Hardheadz completely original songs. Michael Allen has expressed himself musically since 1989, combining his unique voice with intelligent lyrics. Coming from a blues/rock background, Jason Motoshige contributes acoustic and electric guitar riffs, adding diversity to the group. Concerning the rhythm section, Steve Demby provides the beats via the drums, conga's and other percussion instruments. His brother Jeremy Demby, the keyboardist, artfully displays melodic chords and progressions while adding a soulful sound to the Hardheadz cause.
