Hakkımızda DJ Hard Hittin Harry of THE EARTHMAN EXPERIENCE
Haiti-born DJ, Hard Hittin Harry is a Brooklyn, NY resident by way of Montreal, Canada and New Jersey.
After attending and completing high school, Harry attended the Crown Business Institute/Announcer Training Studios where he obtained his FCC license and graduated to his first position in radio at WSOU, 89.5 FM - a Seton Hall University radio station in 1987. There, he produced a weekly radio show called "Quest," and trained high school students in broadcast radio.
Following Seton Hall, his career segued into his next position at Jersey radio station WJDM, where he sold advertisements. Simultaneously, he developed and hosted "Midnite Expressions" at WNJR, in which he designated a portion of his segment to be a platform for other DJs to showcase their mixes.
During HHH's involvement with radio, his dj career kicked off throughout the local club circuit of New Jersey. His mentors were Kool DJ Red Alert, Grand Master Flash, Marly Marl and Mr. Magic. "The original 92 KTU was a big influence," he says. By virtue of being a dj, collecting vinyl was a must, but his devotion to deejaying was so prominent that there were times that he didn't eat; if the ultimatum was eating or buying the record, he'd choose the record. Now that's Love.
HHH's original name was "DJ Casanova" (Caz for short - he's still widely known throughout Jersey by that name). He acquired "Hard Hittin Harry" when a friend approached him in high school and remarked on his DJ style: "You go hard at the parties - you should call yourself DJ Hard Hittin Harry." At the time, Chicago House music was big and three-part DJ names were in, such as "Jack Master Funk." Consequently, his name was a spin off of the Chicago House DJ era. He later tried to dump the name but it stuck.
The landmark of HHH's career was his involvement with The Fugees. He went to the "Booga Basement" (studio) where he was introduced to the them through a friend after which, he became their DJ and toured with their first album project, "Blunted on Reality," which led to his publicity as a DJ, his education of record label politics and industry personalities. Shortly after HHH's stint with the Fugees (one year), he began publicity work at the Manhattan-based Double XXposure PR Firm. He began as an intern and quickly graduated to the ranks of Senior Publicist within a month, where he remained for three years (94-97).
HHH established his PR company after legendary emcee KRS-One asked him to do his PR. He initially refused the offer because he was still employed at Double XXposure, but KRS-One offered a retainer he couldn't refuse. HHH's longtime friend and current business partner Lisa "Chase" Patterson, then stepped in and established their company, Meridian Entertainment, then and there with KRS-One as their first client. HHH & Chase accumulated more clients, and when his employer found out that he was "doing his own thing," he was fired on the spot - although he immediately dove headfirst into his upstart company, Meridian where he's remained ever since.
Over the past decade his company has represented numerous record labels, artists, producers, actors, special events, clothing lines and various beauty industry managers. With Meridian Entertainment underway, HHH continued deejaying at local clubs and area colleges.
Currently, HHH's schedule of DJ gigs is full: He spins at Hotel Gansevoort, Adidas/Heritage and Skechers on weekends, as well as Diesel USA and Nike Town for corporate events. He has held residencies at Red Bamboo, Club Element, 230 5th Penthouse, Beluga Sushi in Cincinati, Negril Village, and Chocolate Bar in Brooklyn.
HHH was featured in the Pulse Weekend Section of the Post in 2005 and the January 2007 issue of Black Elegance Magazine. He was featured twice on BET's Rap City in July 2007 and June 2006 as the on-air DJ, and has a weekly, Internet radio show called, "Check Your Pulse," on KSEXradio.com every Wednesday, from 5pm - 7pm. In addition, he is currently on staff at DubSpot of Manhattan, a cutting edge facility, which trains up and coming DJs.
And if that isn't enough, HHH recently shot a pilot for an upcoming DJ reality show tentatively entitled, "DJ NYC," in which he's one of the featured DJs on the program (www.followthedj.com).
Among his busy schedule of events and projects as both a DJ and publicist, he is also a proud father of three. Like his moniker, DJ Hard Hittin Harry definitely does it all.
